This is NOT the video I wanted to make.

I've been building a SaaS product with C++, partially because I like C++, and partially to see if writing a SaaS in C++ is really as bad as some say.

Of course I'd love to say that the naysayers are wrong, and C++ is great for SaaS.

C++ is certainly capable. But, that doesn't make it the right choice for everyone (or even most people)...

I'm still going to continue writing my Saas in C++. But lets get real about the risks and trade-offs that go with it.

Going All-In on Your Startup Can Be a Nightmare...

If you're building a startup on the side, you've probably had this thought: "If I could just quit my job and work on this full-time, then everything would move so much faster." I get you. I've dreamt about going "all in" too. A lot. Right now, getting one day per week for my startup is a good week, so I could be going over 5x faster.

But, there's a dark side to going all-in that I think a lot of aspiring founders underestimate. Because if you do it too early, it will turn into a nightmare. And I've experienced a version of that nightmare, despite never actually quitting my day job. Let me explain...

Help! I'm very happy with Order Hand's new compact ordering UI. But, I'm in danger of over-polishing the MVP, and delaying the launch.

One of the best ways to choose a SaaS idea is to "scratch your own itch," because being your own customer has huge advantages. I did exactly that... and I nearly shipped an MVP missing a critical feature that would have made it unusable for most customers.

Almost everyone seems to think building a SaaS in C++ is a terrible idea. Use Rails. Use Next.js. Use Go. Use literally anything else but C++.

So, naturally I've decided to do it anyway. I've got a private MVP up and running already, and am working toward a public release.

And no, I'm not doing this just to prove you wrong, because that would be a poor business decision...

The "Wife MVP" of my sales recorder/tracker for WhatsApp is done!

I just added product editing, deleting and archiveing to Order Hand. The app now has the minimal feature-set that my wife needs to actually use it.

Next milestones: billing and a public MVP.
