At Penny's Drop Inn just outside Cromwell, cyclists off the Lake Dunstan Trail, orchard workers, school groups and families exploring Central Otago all end up around the same fire at the end of the day. It was Des and Lynlea Offen’s dream to provide shared accommodation that travellers could use as a base to explore the region, while socialising and sharing stories. Since Des passed away in 2025, daughter Alex and her siblings have stepped up to keep the dream going - with plans to add a boutique campground and glamping pods (as well as a few more animals to join Penny the sheep) 🐑

Behind the scenes, Seekom's been part of the family’s journey since day one - from direct online bookings to one-click pricing updates and template emails that help late-arriving guests find their way in after hours. "Even mum now says she has her evenings free," Alex says. "It's been a game changer."

This week, Nicole and Julia represented Seekom at WiT Queenstown 2026, connecting with others across the travel, tourism, and technology industries ✈️

A few key themes stood out, including the shift from traditional SEO and GEO towards AEO as AI continues to change how travellers search and discover experiences. Another key takeaway was the growing importance of video content, social media, and influencer marketing, with travellers increasingly looking for authentic inspiration through the platforms they use every day.

It was great to hear different perspectives, share ideas, and reflect on how technology is shaping the future of travel and accommodation.

Thanks to the WiT Queenstown team and everyone we connected with along the way.
