Harley (our co-owner and wearer of many hats) headed up to Auckland last week for two industry conferences — ISPANZ (Internet Service Providers Association of New Zealand) and WISPA (Wireless Internet Service Providers Association) — joining ISPs and wireless providers from across the country.

ISPANZ brought plenty of conversations about AI (not the cow kind), data centres, and the future of connectivity in NZ. It's always valuable to catch up with the wider industry and make sure rural communities like ours stay part of the conversation. And cheers to Spark for the dinner!

WISPA wrapped up the week with updates from the Commerce Commission and Radio Spectrum NZ. Lots of exciting things on the horizon once new regulations roll out, plus a few new toys from suppliers to try later. Great to catch up with other WISPs like us.

🌕 The glow of the moon over Te Kuiti early Sunday morning.

The internet doesn't sleep, and sometimes neither do we.🥴 We got a 3am alert that the internet was off at one of our main sites that also feeds 6 other sites, affecting around 100 customers.

After an hour of troubleshooting remotely, we had to make a site visit at 4:30am to fix a hardware fault and get the internet back on before your morning coffee. 😎

This morning’s quake woke us all up early, and somehow it still wrapped up faster than being “transferred to the right department” at one of the big providers.

If you’re over hold music that lasts longer than a 5am earthquake and customer service that moves slower than tectonic plates, it might be time to switch to a team that actually answers.
