This DLS Mk. III from did indeed have a dirty little secret. That being a dirty treble pot. Nothing a quick sq**rt of electronic contact cleaner wouldn't fix. But just in case, we'll keep the patient in for observation just to be sure.

This Octave Multiplexer suffered the unfortunate fate of having leaky 9-volt battery left inside.

As a result, a couple of vias on the PCB were damaged and a couple of connections lost. After installing a couple of short jumper wires to restore those connections, it is back up and running again.

A Carl Martin PlexiTone that was stomped a little too hard and needed a new 'Tone' pot

Interestingly, these pedals are advertised as running on a +12/-12 dual voltage supply as the original AC-powered version. But after having a look inside, it actually runs off a +9/-9 power supply.

While the board was pulled to replace the pot, the voltage regulators swapped out with 78L12 / 79L12 combination so this particular example is now are advertised.

This MXR Distortion + is in need of a little TLC. The pots date it back to 1987 and some of the hardware has been replaced. I was potentially thinking of making it a bit of a restoration project. Just need to track down the correct parts.

This time on 'Tales From The Workbench', a BBE pedals OptiComp Optical Compressor.

I picked this up online recently; known faulty. It would pass a signal in bypass mode but nothing when engaged other than the status LED turning on.

A quick inspection of the PCB revealed that a previous attempt had been made to repair the pedal; evident by a number of soldering iron burns a numerous components inside.

Looking closer at the PCB, I realise that the solder pads of the reverse polarity protection diode were either missing or damaged. And since the audio signal was lost at the first op-amp stage, I concluded that the wrong polarity power supply had been used with the pedal and had fried the diode and all three of the op-amps.

I repaired the damaged solder pads; replaced the diode, all three op-amps as well as a few of the components that had been burnt in the previous repair attempt purely for aesthetic reasons and crossed my fingers.

After plugging it in, she fired up the first time and sounds great.

Another successful repair!

Picked up this pedal on the second-hand market recently; a MXR Phase 95.

A smaller version of the Phase 90 with the ability to switch into a Phase 45 by taking out two of the phasing stages. It also has the 'Script' button for that vintage phasing tones.
