Ever paid for a business expense using your personal account?

It can happen so easily.

You might be out grabbing supplies, paying for a quick online subscription, covering a work-related cost, or using the card that was closest at the time.

The good news is, this can usually be tidied up.

The key is to leave a clear trail.

Keep the receipt or invoice, note that it was a business expense paid personally, reimburse yourself from the business account, code to the correct expense code and attach the receipt to that transaction if possible.

This helps keep your business records cleaner and makes it easier to see what the business has actually spent.

A little rule that helps:

Whenever personal and business payments cross over, pause and keep the paperwork.

Your future self, your bookkeeper, and your accountant will be very grateful.

Recently, we celebrated Dad’s 80th birthday, and it had me thinking about the quiet lessons that stay with you.

Growing up, I thought my Dad was a bit like Thor.

Strong.
Capable.
Brave.

Able to handle whatever life brought his way.

But as I’ve got older, I think the real magic was in the simple things he lived every day.

Work hard.
Be brave.
Look after your people.
Do the job properly.
Keep showing up.

Those lessons have quietly shaped the way I run OMS.
