I've got a pair of boots that are basically slippers now. Years old, moulded to my feet, comfy as anything. And the soles are about two walks away from giving up completely. π’
I know I need new ones. I've known for ages. But there's something about the old ones that feels safe, even falling apart.
Bit like some habits, aren't they.
The self-deprecating jokes. The minimising. The "oh it's nothing" when someone tries to compliment you. They're comfortable because they're familiar, not because they're doing us any favours anymore.
And the annoying thing is, we already know what happens the second we let the old thing go. New boots go on and suddenly we're walking taller. Feels amazing. Feels a bit powerful. π€·ββοΈ
Same with letting yourself be seen a bit. Taking the compliment instead of deflecting it. Backing yourself instead of shrinking just incase someone calls you out.
But guess what. You can still be humble and be a powerhouse. Those aren't opposites. You just have to stop holding the door open for the old, worn-out version of yourself and let the new powerful one in.
Anyway. Buying boots. Metaphorically and literally.
