This post is about the TrackMe Pro+ platform.

We are very proud of what this App and system do, and it really is one of the most feature-rich health and welfare apps out there.
What we are loving right now is the new Active Overlay. Being able to drop a Topo50 map or an Australian Topo map straight over a live activity is a game-changer. You get instant terrain context, track position, and movement all in one view, which makes monitoring people in the field faster and far more intuitive.

For councils, remote workers, events, and anyone responsible for people operating in isolated or higher-risk environments, this kind of visibility matters. It is not just about dots on a map, it is about understanding what is actually happening on the ground, in real time.

This is exactly the sort of feature that turns tracking into true situational awareness.

The latest blog post from the One in the Wilderness Crew
I was right. A lot did happen before we got to Oban. After dinner we walked across the peninsula that we were camped on only to find a sign designating it as a Nature Reserve and strictly no camping. We decided to stay on the right side of the law and up-sticks . With 1.5m waves dumping on the beach, it being pitch black and more open coast between us and anywhere else, we had little option other than to portage our boats and gear across the peninsula and head for somewhere on the sheltered side.
We arrived about 2am at Goose Cove and found two rough tent sites to spend the night.
Anyway. We are in Oban now after a pleasantly uneventful morning, back where started 11days ago. Good to get here before the next storm with North westerlies and a forecast 5m of swell. Yikes!

Latest update for the One in the Wilderness Team

Away late again to get the flow tide behind us up the coast. Still plenty lumpy out at sea but nite and day compared to yesterday. The difference between class V and class III water. Still a couple of high braces and concentration required, but low stress.
SSW wind mostly on our tails so fast kms to Chew To***co Bay, where we hoped to camp at a clearing where Sal and I had camped during our honeymoon.
There is a hut 100m away which was full and we were informed by the deer shooters there that they had placed a salt lick in that clearing and one of their party had his rifle trained on it.
They claimed they had paid for exclusive rights to hunt the block and disallowed us to camp there.
Arriving wet and cold as we were, they didn’t even offer us a cup of tea. How times have changed…..
With limited light to get set up, we headed up the coast to surf land on a beach and we are camped on the only flat spot on it.
Hopefully we’ll finish tomorrow.
Yesterday’s push & today was necessary because a NW storm is moving in which bad for us!!
Not far to go now, but we still have a surf beach to get off tomorrow and plenty can happen between here and Oban……

MAGNIficent Chat # 3 (Jan 2026) is out now.

Click on the super long link below for all the information.
lets skip to the interesting stuff.

Course Format and Notes:

See below for a brief discussion of the MAGNIficent race format and details that will help in your overall strategy planning.

Maps. Teams will only get one set of maps this year. That set will include duplicate maps for orienteering and trekking legs so that a back-up or secondary navigator can earn their salt. The maps and passports will all be printed on waterproof and tear-proof paper (we promise!).

Points. Race will be decided by the team with the most points, and then time. The only thing mandatory is visiting each TA in order and via the discipline(s) intended on that leg. All CP (control points) are optional. There are several types of these: Main points (labeled CP) are the highest value. Waypoints (labeled WP) are like Main points, but with no flagging or marker to check in at, but which teams still get credit for if they pass through. PRO points (labeled PRO) are moderate value, and O-points (labeled O) are the least valuable. The course is designed so that top teams should be aiming to get every available point (all CPs, PRO, and O points).

Course time: The course will be open for 6+ days.

Full course: We expect 10-30% of the teams to get every point.

Sleep cards - once section of the course will have a sleep card system where teams are required to get cumulative 6 hours of sleep. Minimum stops of 2 hours. Must stop in certain areas (TAs and select CP only) to get sleep card credit. When teams use their sleep cards, transition time counts towards sleep time.

Darkzone: There will be two small darkzone areas during one section of the race that will limit travel options and times. No team will get stuck in both of the darkzones (unless you stop for a long time), and we've considered all the options to minimize the effect on the competitiveness of the event. The Darkzone area will also be an area where the sleep card can be utilized.

Equipment weight limits: 30 kg for each bin/bag (A and B). Bikes are just the bikes and stuff attached; Paddle Bag(s) are 50kg each (up to 2 bags permitted).

From the Race Directors
Time Estimates: We've done something different. One number. The number of hours that a reasonably fast team that is expecting to clear the course should be doing. Really fast teams will beat this time. Moderate teams will be somewhat close to this time. Slower teams will want to skip some points to not be too far behind this time. Basically it's mostly meaningless, unless it isn't, which is really up to you. Also - time estimates assume fresh team, daylight, decent weather, and excellent navigation. Yep - pretty much useless. We also might revise these significantly as we finish our final course setting this month. So yeah - mostly a drawing with some numbers. And by the way, PB = Paddle bag(s), Bin A and Bin B and Bikes should be obvious.

We are loving the logistics planner

🪂 TrackMe supporting the NZ Paragliding Nationals 2026 🛰️

TrackMe is proud to be supporting the New Zealand Paragliding Nationals 2026, helping to keep pilots, organisers, and crews connected throughout the event.

Running from Saturday 31 January to Friday 6 February 2026, this 7-day Category 2 competition will see pilots flying over some of the most spectacular landscapes Nelson has to offer, with headquarters based at McCashins Brewery in Stoke.

The Nationals will include two simultaneous events:

NZ Open – a Category 2 competition for experienced pilots

NZ Fun Competition – designed for pilots new to competition who want to gain experience in a supportive environment

With safety, fairness, and fun at the heart of the event, TrackMe will be backing the competition with reliable tracking and safety technology, supporting responsible flying and giving organisers greater visibility when it matters most.

It’s fantastic to be involved in an event that balances high-level competition with community spirit, skill development, and pilot wellbeing.

If you’re planning to compete, it’s not too early to start locking in travel and accommodation. Watch this space for more updates as the event approaches.

One with the Wilderness Post 25th Jan.

We paddled the blade’s edge today and even though we are safe and snug in Big Kuri Bay hut I’m not sure we made good decisions today. In fact I wouldn’t do it again.
4+ hours of open coast, post-storm chaos; over gripping the paddle, getting colder, but unable to take a hand off my paddle….. Mentally and physically feeling the needle go into the red.
I have no words to describe the ocean other than mountainous, chaotic and dread inducing. There was no margin today. But nor did we ask for one.
The Barracudas danced through it all beautifully.
Memories of steep waves with foaming hands snatching at the air, now and then crashing over our boats, mollymawks hovering overhead, sooties tearing about madly, floating bull kelp everywhere wrenched free of its moorings.
We had a hectic surf landing, being barely capable of walking once ashore, but now the joy of a hut with a hot potbelly to ourselves.
The storm last night dumped kelp on the hut steps, so it was a big one!!!

One With the Wilderness post - 24 Jan

So much for the tail winds. 30kt gusts on the beam and 3-4m swells today, so an easy decision for a pit-day with tired bodies and a lee shore.
Rain today too, so our dream run with the weather has come to an end. The wind is funnelling into our inlet and howling through the trees here, but we are warm & dry in tents.
We are camped on an old tin-mining dray trail that leads to the Tin Range after we concluded the only clear, flat spots down this way would be made with shovels.
So pleased to be around the southern capes. The window to do that has certainly shut now for long while. Maybe tomorrow we will get to sea. We’ll see I guess.
