Ko-Iwi Arts Ltd - Māori Carving Ko-Iwi Arts Ltd, The Art of our people. Iwi Le Comte, Contemporary Maori Artist. Sculptor, Ta Moko, Iwi Le Comte is a Independent Contemporary Maori Artist.

Who works in a variety of Art forms including Ta moko, (Tattoo) Sculpture, Carving & Graphic design

Iwi considers his backround in Traditional Maori Carving cornerstone of his art practice. He is strongly influence by the legacy of his Tipuna (ancestors) which can be seen through Iwi's combination of both Traditional & Contemporary motifs.

Kua mutu i taku whakairo rākau, te ingoa tapu. Te Pou Toko.

Tokotoko is made from black and white Maire wood.
The kakau handle is inspired from the Toki Poutangata. ( Ceremonial Adze)
Infused with Whalebone eyes. Kōwhaiwhai design and figures.

This was a side project for when I needed a break from other mediums
Length. 930mm, Tātai kōrero and whakapapa to be added.

This would suit, Pākeke or up and coming Kaiwhakataki (Orator)

Here is a few pictures of a recent customised Pūtōrino. ( Bugle Flute) The wood used is Matai
Beautiful gold straight grain. 200mm x 650mm x 40-60mm wide
Carving is one thing but trying to make a functional instrument was a challenge.
This brought back memories from my training days.

( tip✨shallow channels, big entry for your lips to fit into)

Here is a few of my latest mahi, (all taonga are sold except for the small sculpture made from Pounamu and Mata Tuhua ( Obsidian)
That I had entered into the Nelson Art Awards earlier this year.)

At the 2026 NZ ART Show I will collaborating along side Award winning Māori Artist. (Ngāti Kahungunu in the whare)
Super excited.

I will also be collaborating with Taranaki Māori Artist hokopaura for our Art Exhibition in Bali/ Uluwatu/Canguu. Based on the connection between to cultures and the Moana.

Anei i taku mahi whakairo i te Toki pou-tangata. Te ingoa tapu a Taramainuku.
My 3rd Toki where I have carved the Rākau, Pounamu & Parāoa in one piece. The six heads carve into the Toki blade
Acknowledge 6 chiefs who had passed. Taramainuku was the name given as it was carved
Under the lunar phase of Matariki. ( in short i had a blast i hope this inspires our up & coming Ringatoi)
