Catalyst Trust's next event focuses on shining light in the darkness - talking celestial, not political!

In the first of our 'Spacetober' events, we have astrophysicist and founder of the Nobel award-winning Supernova Cosmology Project Prof Brian Boyle speaking with us about light and dark (figurative and literal) in the cosmos. That's on Tuesday, October 25.

Then at lunchtime on November 1 (still October in NASA-land), we have a surprise visitor landing for lunchtime downtown, literally from out of this world. Details to be announced ASAP.

In addition, we're coordinating a project with Wakatipu High School to have them join NZ's meteorite detection and tracking programme. And bringing an interactive space exhibit to Queenstown later in the school holidays.

Registration open now on the link below for Brian's talk. You may have heard his dulcet tones already during Matariki events up Coronet Peak and in Arrowtown. He has many more tales to tell...

Researchers from Princeton, Stanford, Cornell, and the Open Networking Foundation are working to shape the next-generation of computer networks under the DARPA-funded Pronto Project. Emerging mobile networking technologies promise to radically change notions of connectivity, information availability, and interoperability, as well as place new demands on the wired “core” where data centers and web servers reside. To date, little has been done to address the security and robustness of internet infrastructure, as it is notoriously difficult to make the internet verifiably robust and secure against failures, attacks, and configuration mistakes.

One problem is that many networks still use proprietary software and fixed-function hardware whose correctness is hard to prove. The advent of programmable networking technologies and open source addresses two of these concerns, leaving the most critical capability for securing the internet infrastructure to be verifiability. The Pronto Project seeks to address this challenge by developing an open source 5G connected edge cloud as a programmable network. If successful, this will be the first network under verifiable closed loop control.

So, that's been a year, eh?

We're looking forward to a reinvigorated 2021, and starting to plan some meetups and events.

But, unless you help us out, we're just going to do that based on whatever weird things we happen to think are interesting: So, what's your wishlist version of our features roadmap for QTG in '21?

Anything you particularly want to know about or get up to? Anything you'd be keen to volunteer for?

Comment here, and we'll see what we can do.

Merry Thread.Sleep(n) and Happy i++
