Week 3 of our Cybersecurity Awareness Month "true crime" series with the National Cybersecurity Alliance.

Meet Zestix. This hacker breached more than 50 multinational organisations because some accounts relied on passwords alone. Once criminals obtain stolen passwords, they look for accounts that don't have multifactor authentication (MFA) enabled.

One small setting can make a huge difference:
✅ Turn on MFA wherever it's available

That extra approval step might feel annoying, but it's far less annoying than losing access to your accounts.

Don't make it easy for them.

Most organisations already have policies covering privacy, security, acceptable use and risk. Yet many have no equivalent guidance for AI.

That's a problem.

The result? Employees are often left to make risk decisions themselves.
✅ Which AI tools are approved?
✅ What information can be shared?
✅ Who remains accountable for AI-generated work?
✅ How do you balance innovation with control?

In our latest blog, we explore why AI governance is no longer just an IT concern. It's becoming a business discipline that touches every part of an organisation.

The organisations seeing the greatest value from AI aren't banning it. They're putting practical guardrails in place so people can use it confidently and responsibly.

It's week 2 of our Cybersecurity Awareness Month "true crime" series with the National Cybersecurity Alliance.

Meet Giant Company. Despite the harmless-sounding name, it was linked to a large scam operation that impersonated trusted organisations and people to trick victims into handing over money. Hundreds were arrested, but similar scams continue every day.

The good news? Their biggest enemy isn't technology. It's scepticism, and we can all have a little bit of that.

Before clicking a link, answering a text, or acting on an urgent request, pause for a few seconds and ask: Does this actually seem right?

Don't make it easy for them.

Your employees are adopting AI faster than policies, processes and security controls can keep up.

That creates risk, but it doesn't mean organisations need to choose between innovation and control.

Read our latest blog to learn how leading organisations are bringing AI into view and putting practical guardrails around it.

It's Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and we're joining the National Cybersecurity Alliance's "Don't Make It Easy for Them" campaign by sharing a true cybercrime story each week.

We'll introduce you to real cybercriminals (or scam operations) and the simple steps you can take to avoid helping fund their lifestyle.

This week, meet Dariy Pankov. Known among hackers as “dpxaker”, Pankov sold password-cracking software to hackers that could test thousands of password combinations every second.

Short, reused passwords are exactly what cybercriminals hope you'll choose.

✅ Use long, unique passwords for every account
✅ Let a password manager do the hard work

Don't make it easy for them.

Most organisations fall into one of four AI governance personas:
👀 "We trust our people"
🚫 "No AI allowed"
✅ "Approved tools only"
🔒 "Controlled freedom"
The majority tick one of the first three categories - where most of the risk lives.

In our latest blog, we unpack each AI governance persona, the risks they create, and why only one approach gives organisations both innovation and control.

If you're responsible for IT, security, governance or risk, it's worth a read: https://advantage.nz/whats-your-ai-governance-persona/

We often talk about “the cloud” as if business data simply disappears into the internet. In reality, cloud services depend on very physical foundations – servers, storage, network connections, power, cooling and buildings designed to keep all of it operating reliably.

At the heart of Advantage Cloud is our data centre in Palmerston North, supported by additional infrastructure in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch. Together, this infrastructure allows us to provide cloud and hosting services suited to different operational, technical and commercial requirements.
