Today we’re sharing the story of the Taranaki Women's Refuge, one of the local organisations chosen through our refurbished iPhone giveaway.

Rather than simply handing over the phones, we wanted to learn more about the mahi they do across our region and what these devices will mean for them and the people they support.

Here’s their story.

Move over, Zach Galifianakis.

This is the only show where the host doesn’t just talk about spectrum, he’s on it.

Which feels fitting, since today is Autistic Pride Day.

Somehow, that hyperfocus turned into Taranaki’s local broadband network.

Need internet from people who are weirdly obsessed with getting it right?

P.S. Before anyone asks, no, this is not a real radio show. The microphone is fake. The radio spectrum obsession is very real.

Fibre performance update for Stratford, Waitara and Eltham.

We have been advised by Tuatahi First Fibre that there are confirmed fibre network performance issues affecting some customers in Stratford and Waitara, particularly during peak usage times.

Tuatahi are currently upgrading parts of their Taranaki fibre network, replacing older transport equipment with newer, higher capacity infrastructure. This work will increase backhaul capacity and help support future broadband demand in the region.

The upgrade work affecting Stratford and Waitara is expected to be completed by late July 2026, at which point Tuatahi expect the current capacity constraint to be resolved.

We are also aware of reports from some customers in Eltham experiencing performance issues during peak times. At this stage, Tuatahi has not confirmed a fibre network issue in Eltham, but this is still under investigation.

If you are in Stratford, Waitara or Eltham and your fibre connection is not performing as expected, especially during busy evening periods, please contact Primo or your own provider so that your service can be checked and, where needed, log a fault with Tuatahi.

Fault reports are important because they help identify patterns, confirm affected areas and give Tuatahi the information they need to investigate properly.

We know slow internet is frustrating, especially when the house is full, everyone is online, and the WiFi is getting blamed for everything from Netflix buffering to someone losing at Fortnite.

Thanks for your patience while Tuatahi complete this work. Our team will continue monitoring the situation and supporting affected Primo customers as best we can.

This week is Elder Abuse Awareness Week.

Across New Zealand, many older people experience abuse, neglect, isolation, or financial exploitation, often from someone they know and trust. Many cases go unseen and unreported.

Here in Taranaki, Age Concern Taranaki does incredibly important work supporting older people through advocacy, education, wellbeing programmes, social connection, and practical help when it’s needed most.

At Primo, we’re proud to support their work by providing sponsored broadband services that help the team stay connected and continue delivering vital support across our region.

We also support our elders by offering SuperGold Card holders cheaper broadband for their retirement, with 10% off monthly residential broadband plan charges.

Staying connected to family, friends, healthcare, community services, and support networks matters.

This week is a good reminder to check in on the older people in our lives, and to reach out if you or someone you know needs support.

🚨 Emergency Mobile Alert test this Sunday 🚨

Heads up, Taranaki (and the rest of NZ). The annual Emergency Mobile Alert test is happening this Sunday 14 June between 6pm and 7pm.

That means capable phones and other SIM connected devices may suddenly make a noise that will absolutely make you jump, scare the dog, wake the baby, interrupt dinner, or make everyone in the room yell, “WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT?”

It is only a test, but it is an important one. It helps make sure the national alert system works properly when we actually need it.

A couple of useful things to know:

If you have a hidden phone for personal safety, or the alert sound could affect your physical or mental health, NEMA recommends turning off any SIM connected devices between 6pm and 7pm, or putting them into flight mode.

You can mute the sound once it starts by pressing the volume button on the side of your phone. The message will stay on screen so you can still read it.

So there you go. No panic required. Just New Zealand collectively getting jump scared for public safety.

Stay safe out there legends. 📱🚨
