I had a go at glass gilding over the weekend and it was a humbling experience! Thank you Paul from Identity Signs for your patience (tolerance) not just with the gilding process but also how to choose colours.

For this piece Ive used gold leaf, silver leaf and rose gold glitter, because this magpie likes all the sparkles ✨ Apologies to Phil who will have glitter throughout his workshop for the next 30 years. Gilding is a very slow, methodical process which doesn’t suit my instant gratification itch but I’m so pleased I stuck with it. I have a newfound respect for the gilders I follow and admire, I always knew it was hard but it’s HARD hard!

Also please admire the fingerprints on my glass in the first shot, I left them there especially for you Wazza 🤣

Another epic Letterheads New Zealand done and dusted 👩🏼‍🎨 a magical ratbaggery of signees coming together to keep the craft alive. I always leave with a full cup, a happy heart and new friends.

This is one project of two I managed to complete in between causing mischief, lime cruisers and karaoke 🥰

It feels like a quick quote is what customers want… until they go ahead, and then they understandably want it to have been accurate. Nobody likes unexpected costs.

But getting that price right takes time, information and decisions about the job… often before the customer knows the answers or even whether they want to proceed. A barrage of questions probably isn’t what they were hoping for when they asked, “How much?” 😅

So here’s today’s Print Shop Predicament: how much figuring-out should come with a quote? And how do you balance a quick answer with a price everyone can rely on?
