✅ Project complete: Kaikorai Valley to Halfway Bush cable replacement in Dunedin
A project to replace two new 3.15km long 33 kV electricity underground cables, supplying 3,300+ properties, is officially complete!
Thank you to all the wonderful Kaikorai Valley, Halfway Bush and Wakari residents, businesses and landowners who supported the project and worked with us throughout construction, keeping the project moving and everyone safe.
We acknowledge that road users, residents and businesses in the area have experienced a range of construction activity and roadworks over recent months. While this cable replacement project was separate from other works underway in the area, we appreciate the patience and understanding shown by the community throughout construction.
As your local electricity lines company, our main job is to continually invest in and improve the network to ensure you stay switched on. Over the past six months, we have replaced two ageing 33 kV electricity underground cables that connect the Kaikorai Valley zone substation with Transpower’s Halfway Bush Grid Exit Point. The 3.15km of new cable will improve the security and reliability of electricity supply for more than 3,300 homes and businesses across the area.
The project included working through busy sections of Kaikorai Valley Road, crossing two major streams, and using directional drilling through Kempthorne Place to minimise disruption for local residents.
A big shout out to our internal project team, and to our contractors KB Contractors LTD, Delta Utility Services, Connor Jones Group Ltd for safely delivering the project on schedule, and for their strong communication with the community, landowners and businesses in the area.
This work supports a more secure, future-ready power supply and is a great example of how we are delivering long-term benefits for the communities we serve.
