We’re settling into our new premises at 1/116 Main Road and loving our new space! It’s been great getting everything set up and finding our feet again — and we’ve had plenty of creative projects coming through the doors along the way. Here is a snippet of some of the things we’ve been working on over the past month 👇

We’re taking a little break from 1 September and will be out of the area for three weeks, but Katipō Creative will still be ticking along in the background.

We’ll be keeping an eye on our emails and can organise design work, quotes and business printing from afar, so please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have something you need sorted. We can get things underway while we’re away and arrange delivery or collection as needed.

For straightforward document printing or photocopying while we’re away, Paper Plus, the Katikati Library and the Katikati Community Centre are good local options.

Thanks for all the support as we’ve settled into our new home. We’ll see you again in person towards the end of September. ❤️

🎉 We've moved... and we're here to stay!

After a few months operating from our temporary location, we're excited to be settling into our new permanent home at 1/116 Main Road, Katikati.

A huge thank you to our mates at Mactrap for generously sharing their space with us while we got back on our feet. We couldn't have done it without you!

We're back doing what we love—business cards, flyers, brochures, booklets, posters, photo & fine art printing, plus a whole lot more.

We've streamlined things a little, with our focus now firmly on quality printing and design. While we're no longer offering custom framing or art supplies, we're still creating beautiful stretched canvases.

AI is Amazing... until you try to print it.

We love AI. It helps generate ideas, write content, brainstorm concepts and even create beautiful images. But every week we receive artwork (design files) that simply isn't ready for professional printing.

Common issues include:
🧐 No bleed
🙃 RGB colours instead of CMYK
☹️ Low resolution images
🥺 Incorrect page sizes
😢 Missing fonts
😭 Files created for screens, not paper

The result?
Colours don't print as expected, blurry images, white edges after trimming, or files that need to be rebuilt before they can be printed correctly.

AI is a great starting point. But print-ready files will give you the best results.

📸The Value of Authenticity in the Age of AI

Someone recently asked about editing a family photo.

Could we remove things from the photo? Absolutely.
Could we tidy up hair, change backgrounds, improve appearances, or create a more "perfect" image? Yes.

But it got me thinking. In this new world where AI can change or create almost anything, it's easy to forget what makes a photo special in the first place. The smiles in the photo are real. The moment is real. The place where it was taken holds memories. And everyone looks as they did on that day.

When we look back at photos from the past, we're not focused on the things we'd like to change. We're remembering the people, the memories, and the story behind the photo.

None of us are perfect. We have bad hair days, wrinkles, more kilos than we'd like, and all sorts of quirks. But that's real life and it's part of what makes us who we are.

The most valuable thing about a photo is that it's honest.

As print professionals, we can certainly help improve a photo where needed. But sometimes it's better to preserve the memory, not a perfected version of it.

After all, the best photos aren't always the perfect ones — they're the ones that make us smile when we see them again. ❤️

Outdoor education resources need to be tough!

These synthetic discovery cards printed for Aongatete Outdoor Education Centre are waterproof, tearproof and built to withstand forest adventures and school bags, while helping our tamariki discover the native flora and fauna of the ngahere.
