The solar-powered sleepout is no longer just an experiment. After a few months of living with the setup, Olav, our Head of Growth, now has the answer to the big question from part one: was going solar actually worth it?

Having now faced a Dunedin winter and a few DIY headaches, Olav shares how the setup is working better than expected, and what he’s learned along the way ⬇️

Solar-Powered Backyard Sleepout A solar-powered sleepout sounded good on paper. Early bird gets the bill sorted 🐦 We’ve made a small update that makes managing bills a little smoother.

If you pay a bill early, PocketSmith can sometimes mark it as overdue because the payment falls outside the expected bill period. Previously, fixing that meant manually moving the bill in your Calendar.

Now, there’s a simpler way. When a bill is marked overdue, you’ll see a new “fix this bill” button in the bills analysis popup. From there, PocketSmith will help you locate the early payment and assign it to the bill in just a couple of clicks.

Where you choose to have your bank account can have an impact beyond your balance, but “sustainability” claims aren’t always as clear-cut as they sound. Emma looks at what to check beyond the green marketing and how to research where your bank puts its money.

With their substantial power and capital, even choices like who we bank with can have a social and environmental impact — positive or negative, depending on who you choose. Here’s how you can look for a banking institution that aligns your personal values with your financial ones.
