A word for anyone looking at a new website or upgrading (don’t come for me)
Your website’s credibility is often attributed to its design. In saying that, here are the top 5 mistakes that I see frequently when helping businesses with their websites.
💻Fonts too small. If they can’t read it, it’s annoying and they don’t stay. Instead aim for an optimal size for the body text that doesn't require squinting or pinch to zoom. Factor in your target audience and their average age when choosing the ideal font sizes.
🐢Slow sites - visitors expect quick loading times—47% won’t wait more than 2 seconds for a page to load. Speed impacts user experience, SEO rankings, and conversions. Make sure your site is lightning-fast.
📝Too many words. No one ordered a word salad for the home page. Put your story on the ‘about’ page instead. Remember your homepage is like a first date…so give them exactly what they want, and then they decide if they want to commit to keeping scrolling.
🗺️Unclear navigation (This one is my pet peeve). Whilst it might seem clear to you, if it’s hard to find for your customers, it impacts on their decision making. Pricing, location, contact details, should all be easily easy to find, plain and clear.
💡Forgetting the importance of ‘responsive design’. Make sure your website looks right and functions properly across all types of screen sizes. Usually, most customers will visit your website for the first time on a mobile phone. This is frequently overlooked. Remember your website is where your customers make assumptions about the quality of your product or service.
