Elevating what's possible in the field.
Earlier this month, our team took on a challenging pole removal project on Whatipu Road in Auckland.

The challenge:

How do you work on 120 Poles on one road which is a narrow rural corridor with sections as tight as 4 metres wide.

Before a single pole came out, our team invested the first 3 days in thorough asset clearing — applying NZGTTM principles to carefully identify and mitigate every risk that the site presented. That groundwork made everything that followed possible.

The result? 120 poles removed and reinstated to required standards in just 7 working days — completing the full project in a record 10 working days.

That outcome doesn't happen without the right partners. The technology delivered by DataStream NZ Ltd was instrumental in helping us work smarter, move faster, and maintain the standards our clients expect.

This is what it looks like when preparation, process, and partnership come together. Proud of the team on the ground who made it happen.

Practical innovation at its best which balances business and technical outcomes with safety at the core!

Clearing the way for Christchurch
UCG is proud to be delivering a meaningful project in central Christchurch — removing over 400 redundant Chorus poles and aerial network from the red zone.
This isn't just infrastructure removal. It's about giving back to a community that's been through so much. The cleared streetscape reduces visual pollution in an area that holds deep significance for so many New Zealanders — and in a great collaboration with Chorus and Christchurch City Council, the recovered poles are being donated for repurposing into playgrounds and public gardens.
Works began on 2 March, and we're proud to say we've already removed more than 250 poles — ahead of our scheduled completion date. That progress didn't come without challenges. A full survey was needed in the area which required a lot of walking over the hot summer days before a single pole came down, and we had to customise and develop a process that had large volumes of poles being taken down safely in a short timeframe. Our team rose to both the challenges without missing a beat.
Projects like this are why we love what we do. 💙

Today in our Meet Our Delivery Partner series, we’re proud to introduce Pointzero Network, a long-standing and highly valued UCG Delivery Partner.

Pointzero has partnered with UCG since 2018, delivering high-quality fibre services across multiple regions. The company was founded by Ricky Singh, whose telecommunications journey began in 2015 as a dispatcher for a local telecommunications Service Provider. His deep technical expertise and understanding of New Zealand’s fibre network inspired him to build a business capable of delivering an end to end service with scale, quality and reliability.

With a team that brings over 80 years of combined industry experience, Pointzero operates across Northland, Auckland, Waikato and the Coromandel, and specialises in:
• Complex fibre faults
• Fibre maintenance
• Fibre build
• Provisioning

Thanks to their team size and structure, Pointzero can respond to large-scale, high complexity jobs and maintain 24/7 coverage, ensuring service continuity for anywhere from a single customer to thousands.

At UCG, partnerships like this are a key part of how we deliver reliable, scalable network solutions across New Zealand. By combining our national operating model with the strength of experienced Delivery Partners such as Pointzero, we ensure our utility clients benefit from consistent quality, rapid response capability and a reliable network that communities can depend on.

We’re grateful for the strong partnership we’ve built with Pointzero and proud of the impact they continue to make across the network.

UCG is Evolving — and Expanding Across Aotearoa

We’re excited to share a rebranding exercise as we connect businesses and consumers to high-capacity/high quality broadband across New Zealand.

As part of this evolution, we’ve proudly unveiled our refreshed brand identity featuring our new tagline:
Telecommunications That Power Communities

This isn’t just a slogan — it reflects who we are. Connectivity is at the heart of strong communities, and UCG is dedicated to ensuring people, organisations, and neighbourhoods stay connected, supported, and empowered.

Across the country, our Field Managers are hitting the road with newly branded UCG vehicles, representing a fresh, energised version of who we are. With our fleet of vehicles, our team is showing up every day to deliver high quality telecommunications services that keep New Zealand moving.

Our rebrand represents more than a new look. It symbolises our renewed focus on:
Strengthening local partnerships
Supporting regional growth
Delivering reliable telecommunications communities can depend on
Championing innovation in a fast-changing digital world

Let’s power communities, together. Because at the end of the day, it’s all about people — and we’re proud to help keep Kiwi communities connected.

Keep an Eye Out for Us and come have a chat. Happy to discuss all things fibre and high quality broadband.

Our Operations team have successfully completed the first Annual Re-Induction of 2026 in Auckland, bringing together our Delivery Partners to reset for the year ahead.

This year’s session we delivered the induction in partnership with key suppliers NZ Safety Blackwoods and Cory’s, alongside our client Chorus. The day reinforced the importance of working as one connected team across the entire supply chain but most importantly focussed on the importance of safety on our sites.

Also in attendance was our Executive team who shared the strategic direction for 2026, and members of our Software Development team who were on hand to talk about the latest enhancements to our in-house app SiteTRAX3, demonstrating how technology continues to support safer, smarter and more efficient delivery.

Thank you to everyone who attended and contributed to such an engaging and collaborative day. Strong partnerships, the right tools and a shared commitment to safety are what enable us to keep empowering better connections.

Last week, our team had the privilege of cooking dinner for families staying at Ronald McDonald House Charities Auckland — families who are supporting children going through some of the toughest moments of their lives.

It was a small gesture, but a powerful reminder that sometimes the simplest acts — a warm meal, a shared moment, showing up — can make a real difference to people who are carrying a lot.

A huge thank you to our team and to Chorus for joining us in this initiative and helping make the evening possible. This is what partnership looks like beyond contracts and projects — people coming together to support the community we’re part of.

If you’re looking for a way to give back, RMHC does incredible work supporting families when they need it most. (https://rmhc.org.nz/)
