It was a pleasure to support the next generation of cybersecurity talent at the University of Auckland Computer Science Society's recent cybersecurity panel.

Our SOC Team Lead, Johana (Hana) Dorado, joined fellow industry professionals to share insights into her career journey, the realities of working in cybersecurity, and the skills students can develop to prepare for the industry.

It was a fun experience speaking with students who are passionate about cybersecurity and eager to learn more about the industry, she said.

"The questions they asked showed genuine curiosity and enthusiasm, and it was great to share some of my experiences and encourage the next generation of cyber professionals."

New Zealand SMEs are feeling more vulnerable to cyber attacks—but the data suggests they’re also getting stronger.

According to data from New Zealand's National Cyber Security Centre, more than half of organisations now consider cyber security a business priority. Yet 43% feel vulnerable, up from 34% last year.

According to CodeBlue's CISO Mathew Jose, what sounds like a contradiction could also be a sign of growing maturity.

The more organisations understand cyber risk, the more clearly they see their exposure—and how much work remains.

Greater concern doesn’t necessarily mean weaker security. It can reflect stronger awareness, better questions and a more realistic view of risk. The challenge is turning that awareness into consistent action.

Three cities. Three events. Dozens of conversations about AI, cyber security and what they mean for New Zealand's steel construction sector.

This week, Matt Bourne and Vaidik Patel joined Steel Construction New Zealand (SCNZ) members in Christchurch, Palmerston North and Auckland to discuss how organisations can strengthen cyber resilience while safely embracing AI.

One of the highlights was Vaidik's interactive Cyber Bingo session. Attendees started standing and sat down as questions were asked about common cyber security practices. In Palmerston North, everyone was seated after one of the very first questions about password reuse. It was a simple but powerful reminder that many cyber incidents start with everyday habits.

Matt followed with a live Microsoft Copilot demonstration, showing practical ways AI can help teams:
• Summarise reports and project information
• Draft communications and documentation faster
• Surface insights from emails and files
• Improve productivity across everyday tasks

The message resonated strongly: AI isn't just about reducing costs. It's about helping people spend less time on administration and more time on valuable work.

We were also pleased to have Josh Laycock and Karthik Ramanathan attend the Auckland event, where we had the opportunity to connect with members and share more about the broader capabilities of CodeBlue and FUJIFILM Business Innovation New Zealand.

A big thank you to Darren O'Riley and the team at Steel Construction New Zealand (SCNZ) for the opportunity to contribute to this year's member events. It was encouraging to see the strong interest in Microsoft's free 30-day Copilot trial and our executive tabletop exercises, which help leadership teams prepare for cyber incidents before they happen.

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by the FUJIFILM CodeBlue stand at Canterbury Tech Summit 2026.

It was great to talk to so many business and technology leaders about the challenges they're facing around cyber security, AI adoption, data governance and technology resilience.

One theme came through consistently: organisations are looking for practical ways to reduce risk, strengthen resilience and make better use of technology to support their people and business goals.

Great conversations, valuable insights, and plenty of practical takeaways from our recent Microsoft Dynamics 365 CRM event held at the Microsoft office in Auckland.

As organisations embrace AI, automation, and modern business applications, ensuring the right foundations are in place has never been more important. From cybersecurity and identity management to governance and user adoption, successful transformation depends on more than technology alone.

A special thank you to Michael Baldwin from Microsoft for an outstanding presentation on the shift from AI ambition to agentic transformation, sharing practical insights into how organisations can unlock greater value from AI, Copilot, and business applications.

Thanks also to Kirsty Chapman from Microsoft for her support in helping make this event possible.

Cyber risk is financial risk, and building resilience requires finance and technology leaders to work together.

That message came through clearly at last week's New Zealand CFO Summit, where we discussed the changing expectations placed on CFOs, the growing importance of cyber governance and the need to adopt AI and automation without compromising security or control.

A highlight was our panel discussion featuring Dean Fox, CFO at St Andrew's Village, and Mathew Jose, CISO at FUJIFILM CodeBlue, moderated by Irene Direnko-Smith, Head of Process Automation at FUJIFILM Business Innovation.
