Without a client brief, I based the landscape design on the feature boardwalk itself. It's contemporary, simple and maintenance-free, therefore, added a softscape to match.

The client's loved it!
1. The border will be Eucalyptus, a hardwood that will last for years. It's rot and decay resistant and fast growing, which makes for an eco-friendly material choice.
2. Hessian and coconut fibre cover the soil for moisture retention and is then covered with a dark mulch.
3. Artificial grass with permeable properties, is laid between the grave sites for a comfortable access way.
4. A light shaping of the border plants twice a year is little maintenance when compared to replacing plants that need changing out seasonally. The grasses are drought tolerant and would last easily through the hot summer. Most of the area is covered with plants so that there is minimal evaporation.

An un-usual landscape design request; the brief was to make this garden memorial grave, easy to maintain which is restricted to only low growing plants allowed.

My analysis...
1. Add a border to define the boundary and contain the planting.
2. Include an easy, dry walking passage between the sites.
3. Some clever moisture retention plan needed.
4. Choose plants that require minimal attention, look good all year round, and are in keeping with the growth restrictions.

This is going to be an interesting challenge.
