So finally got to renovating my old shed which was basically falling apart due to years of neglect. When we bought our home 28 years ago it was on its last legs but as some of us know, life has a knack of getting in the way and the best of intentions. Or was it just plain laziness on my part ? Rotten timber, roofing and shadow clad replaced, and electrical plugs and lights replaced by a certified electrician my old shed is looking as good as new!
And now to the reason to finally have done something about it.
As mentioned earlier I attended a Luthier ukulele building course last July (23) and the shed fix-up is in preparation for my new little venture. My business, Mindlogik (with a K, not c, the k representing always striving for knowledge) is my mainstay, but I want to add to this, be it a side hustle or a core part of business. In today's world the focus on education is that we have to provide children with the skills to cope with modern society. I agree on the skills part but disagree on methodology. Knowledge and the study for a profession, or art or skill, be it the building of a ukulele for fun or for an employment or commercial enterprise requires in-depth study of scientific knowledge that precedes the action. This part of knowledge building (preceding skill) to inform thinking has, I believe for too many years been undervalued in education. A software coder needs the knowledge before the skill to code skilfully, so does a hobbyist ukulele or guitar builder, so does ...... etc, etc. I am hoping to be able to provide a ukulele building course for ukulele players that want to build their own instrument. This might just be but a fool's dream but what the heck, I am going to give it a shot!
I have always loved woodwork and creativity and although I went from education as a teacher to principal, to Dean of Education to CEO of a computing enterprise, to small business as owner of a project management, mind mapping and e-learning software development business, the creative "itch" has always pulled me towards wanting to express my creative side. I love children story writing https://penabook.com/ and ukulele music https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCqi_ysaqUrwiLG-cv75prVQ and and although this year has been my story and song writing "wasteland" due to a range of factors, this is my focus going forward, being as creative as I can be , that is....
So I will be on a new venture once our holiday is over and we will be adding a creative side hustle to my life focussing on being creative with wood, hopefully using the knowledge and skills I have acquired over a lifetime to get creative using sustainable wood for useful product development.....ukulele building being one of my passions.
Please do wish me luck :-).
