It’s so hard to find good staff these days. 😴🙄

On the bright side, she keeps my seat warm? And prevents me from sitting down too much? 🤷‍♀️

If I opened your website today, these are three of the first things I’d check.

1. 𝗖𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗿 𝗻𝗮𝘃𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻

Your menu should use words your customers understand immediately. “About”, “Services”, “Projects” and “Contact” might not be exciting, but people know exactly what they’ll find.

If you offer several important services, don’t cram them all onto one general services page. Give each one its own page and make it easy to reach from the menu. This also gives Google a clearer page to show when someone searches for that particular service.

2. 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗴 𝗵𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗻𝗴𝘀

“Welcome to our website” tells people nothing.

The main heading should quickly explain what the business does. For example, “Residential and Commercial Painting Services” is much more useful than “Bringing Your Vision to Life”.

Then use clear subheadings to guide people through the page, including an introduction to the business, the services offered, the industries or customers they work with, reviews and clear calls to action.

Clear headings also help search engines understand the content. Google uses visible page headings as one of the sources for creating search result titles.

3. 𝗔𝗻 𝗼𝗯𝘃𝗶𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗻𝗲𝘅𝘁 𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗽

Don’t make people scroll back to the top or search for the contact page once they’re ready.

Your phone number or contact details should be easy to find in the header or near the top of the page, as well as in the footer. Use clear buttons and calls to action throughout the page, then finish with a dedicated contact section that takes people directly to a form or provides the details they need.

The next step should match what the visitor is reading. That might be:

• Request a quote
• Book a service
• View our services
• Ask about your project

Here’s a quick test: open your homepage on your phone and show it to someone who doesn’t know your business well. Within twenty seconds, can they tell you what you do, find the right service and see clear contact details?

If not, there’s your starting point.

CRM stands for Customer Relationship Management, which sounds a bit corporate, but it’s really just one place to keep your contacts, enquiries and marketing organised.

And it definitely isn’t only for big businesses.

One of the biggest benefits is that it can replace several separate systems. Instead of paying for Mailchimp, using spreadsheets or another system to organise contacts, jumping into Meta Business Suite to schedule posts and paying for other marketing tools, you can manage it all from one central place.

A CRM can also help you:

• Send email newsletters, special offers and targeted campaigns
• Automatically reply when someone completes your contact form
• Send a personalised email, text, PDF or helpful link
• Track whether enquiries came from your website, social media, advertising, an email campaign or a specific QR code
• Organise contacts using tags based on their interests or the services they need
• Send automatic follow-ups and text reminders, so nobody gets forgotten
• Schedule your social media content
• Keep track of opens, clicks, responses and other useful statistics
• Keep your contacts, conversations and marketing together

And the best part is, you can just use the parts that are useful and relevant to you and your business. Everything can be customised around the way you work.

That’s where our Merge Momentum monthly packages come in. We combine social media and email marketing with a CRM customised around your business.

We create and schedule your social posts, produce your email newsletters and manage the forms, tags and automations behind them. You tell us what you want to focus on each month and we take care of the rest.

Your homepage doesn’t need to say everything!

Think of it as a taster of what your business offers. Its job is to quickly show visitors they’re in the right place, then guide them to the service or information they actually need.

Keep the message clear, include links to your key pages near the top, and make it easy for people to know where to go next.

So please, stop trying to cram everything onto it! It makes the page slower and more cluttered, which makes it harder for people to find what they’re actually looking for.

Today’s episode of Words of Wisdom was brought to you by the colour blue.

No seriously, do you have any idea what colour your blue actually is (or green or orange or pink for that matter), or what your brand fonts are?

The last thing you want is for Janice from accounts to suddenly be slapping electric blue Comic Sans all over your social media posts.

And that wouldn’t be Janice’s fault..the poor woman has never been given any brand guidelines!

Anyway, here is why it’s important to know!

Well, here it is… the first ever episode of Renee’s Words of Wisdom! 👍

I’ll be bringing you answers to all your pressing questions about your branding, website or online marketing each week (at least I’ll try to). I’ll also talk about things that annoy me and, mostly likely, tell you what NOT to do.

So... what do YOU need to know about your marketing? Or tell me about things that annoy you too!

🔹 Do you want an honest opinion about whether your logo needs updating?

🔹 Do you need to know how to make sure your site keeps coming up in AI searches?

🔹 How can you make it easier to keep track of all your contacts and enquiries?

🔹 Why can’t you use a JPEG on a billboard?

🔹 And, should Janice from Accounts really be doing your social media?

Anyway, tell me, and I’ll tell you! Otherwise, I’ll just ramble on about whatever comes to my mind.

Free advice, whether you wanted it or not.

NZ Ute recently headed to the NZ Fishing Hunting & 4X4 Expo in Rotorua, and it was great to see all their marketing working together!

We created the word search competition, promotional flyer and window card detailing the ute setup on display, along with the NZ Ute logo and branding featured across the flags and stand.

The flyer also included a QR code linking to a dedicated landing page with a special show offer. Visitors could fill out a quick contact form to claim the offer, while NZ Ute could track their interests and keep all their details together in one place in our GoHighLevel CRM system.

Easy for customers and valuable for the team. A win for everyone!

We work closely with the NZ Ute team, so it’s always rewarding to see everything come together and create a strong & consistent brand presence.

The Chapel Downs Junior College website is now live!

While it remains closely connected to the Chapel Downs Primary School website, we wanted the Junior College site to have its own more mature and professional feel, reflecting the students, learning environment and opportunities it represents.

We introduced a different header style, updated imagery and added in their dedicated Junior College logo, while keeping the overall brand connection clear across both sites.

The result is a website that feels more senior and established, but still unmistakably part of the Chapel Downs community.

Congratulations to the team at Chapel Downs Junior College! We’re proud to have brought this next stage of the school’s journey to life online.
