Nuwakot Flood Relief Response — Day 2
Reaching Families Where Support Is Needed Most
On the second day of our relief response in Nuwakot, the KarmaFlights Foundation Nepal team continued along the affected Trishuli River corridor, reaching displaced families and vulnerable communities who are facing extremely difficult conditions following the Bhote Koshi flood.
📍 Ama Buwa Ashram Temporary Holding Centre, Bidur–1, Simutar
We reached 27 displaced families, representing more than 100 family members, currently taking shelter at the centre.
Each family received essential supplies including:
25 kg rice
Chickpeas & daal
Tarpaulin
Beaten rice & Satu
Cooking oil
Noodles
Sanitary pads & toothbrushes
Torch lights
Clothing for women & children
Blankets for family members
Five families who had lost almost everything also received plates, cups and cooking utensils, while additional utensils were provided for the centre's communal kitchen.
👵 Support for Senior Citizens
We also visited a senior citizens' shelter in Bidur Municipality–4, providing tarpaulins, Satu, torch lights, blankets and mobile charging cables.
Nuwakot Covered Hall Holding Centre
At another major holding centre, we provided torch lights, charging cables, multi-plugs, toothbrushes, blankets, baby litos and baby diapers to support the daily needs of displaced families.

The devastation by the Bhote Koshi River Flood that came from upstream Tibet. It is complete wipe out of the villages from Top of Rasuwa all the way downstream to Nuwakot and Dhading
The damage is less while it comes from Dhading and Chitwan.
The local witnesses told us today that the flash flood came so fast innthr speed of Bullet train at 180Km/hour.

First Lot of Relief Support Reaches Nuwakot
Today, KarmaFlights Foundation Nepal distributed the first lot of relief materials to disaster-affected families in Bidur Municipality–5, Nuwakot.
At a local school, around 400 people are currently taking shelter after being displaced by the recent disaster. We provided essential supplies including tarpaulins, clothes, food items, and other basic necessities to help families cope with the difficult situation.
This relief effort has been made possible through the generous support of Metal for Nepal and our other global friends and supporters, who have come forward to stand with communities in Nepal during this challenging time.
We are continuing to assess the needs on the ground and will do our best to reach more affected families with essential support.

LIVE FROM THE ROAD — BHOTE KOSHI RELIEF MISSION 🇳🇵🙏

13:00 PM | Kathmandu Capital

The situation is changing by the minute.

There is no longer a way from Galchhi to Nuwakot—the flood has taken the bridge. We must continue towards Kathmandu and find another safe route from there.

The Trishuli River is raging—muddy, swollen and far beyond its normal level. Along the way, we have seen suspension bridges swinging above the powerful current like cradles.

We have been stopped several times by traffic authorities, with warnings changing as quickly as the river. We are moving carefully and following the latest safety information.

🙏 All three jeeps and our team are safe. Traffic between Kathmandu and Pokhara is currently moving smoothly in both directions.

Our contacts in Kathmandu are ready to coordinate the next stage. Karmayog and Metal for Nepal are accompanying the mission. 🤝

We don't know exactly what the road ahead will bring. But we are moving forward—carefully, responsibly, and with the affected families in our hearts.

Good mornig from Pokhara !!
KarmaFlights Team is on the wheel from Pokhara towards Nuwakot & Rasuwa. We, a smll team left at 3:15 AM from Pokhara with relief items in 3 vehicles. The weather is typical monsoon type and the road to kathmandu is open and empty for the time being. Thank you very enthusiastic driveers for taking the road not easy to take. We will pick our friends at METAL for NEPAL in kathmandu and leave for Nuwakot today itslef with careful coordination with concerned authorities. We hope they will let us go!!

SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE AFFECTED BY THE BHOTE KOSHI FLOOD

KarmaFlights Foundation Nepal - Pokhara is standing with the communities affected by the devastating Bhote Koshi flood.

Our team is preparing to depart from Pokhara with essential relief supplies, heading towards the Nuwakot - Rasuwa area. With roads and transportation routes severely affected, we are working to identify and use the safest possible alternative routes to reach communities in need. This time, we are taking relief worth NPR 1.5 Million.

We are coordinating closely with reliable government authorities and local agencies to ensure that our relief efforts are responsible, relevant, and reach those who need support most. As part of this coordination, our team recently met with the Chief District Officer (CDO) Office, Kaski, to inform the authorities about our journey and receive the latest information and guidance.

🤝 Supporting the national relief effort

In addition to our field relief operation, KarmaFlights Foundation Nepal has contributed NPR 200,000 (Two Hundred Thousand Rupees) to the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund, supporting the Government of Nepal’s efforts in search and rescue, emergency response, and immediate relief for affected communities.

A Message from the Karmaflights/KarmaTreks & Adventure with Purpose Family 🇳🇵🙏

Standing with Nepal Through This Unprecedented Disaster

We’ve received so many messages from friends, guests, partners and members of our international travel family asking about Nepal and the people affected by this devastating disaster.

Thank you for your solidarity, prayers and support. ❤️

We’re deeply saddened by the catastrophic flash flood that hit the Bhote Koshi River in Rasuwa on 26 August, sending a massive surge of water, ice, rock, mud and debris downstream through the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli river systems, affecting Nuwakot, Dhading and areas further downstream.

This was far from an ordinary monsoon flood. The water rose incredibly quickly, giving communities almost no time to respond. Homes, roads, bridges, vehicles, businesses and vital infrastructure were swept away. Many lives were lost, and many people are still missing. The full extent of the human and economic loss is still becoming clear.

What happened?

Scientists are still investigating the exact chain of events.

Early assessments suggest that a large ice-and-rock avalanche or landslide happened in the high Himalayan region on the Tibet side of the border, blocking the Lhende River and forming a temporary natural lake or reservoir. When the blockage gave way, a huge amount of water and debris was suddenly released into the Bhote Koshi system.

A magnitude 4.4 earthquake was recorded at around 8:37 AM, shortly before the flood surge was detected. However, scientists are still working to understand whether the earthquake triggered the ice-and-rock collapse or whether the two events happened independently. So, it’s too early to say that the earthquake was definitely responsible.

Some experts are also looking into the possibility of a glacial lake outburst or the sudden release of a temporary debris-dammed lake. Satellite imagery and further research will help clarify what happened high in the mountains.

The scale and speed of this disaster are a powerful reminder of how vulnerable Himalayan communities and infrastructure can be to sudden high-mountain hazards.

We’re relieved to share that our KarmaTreks and KarmaFlights family is safe.But emotionally, we’re far from untouched.

Seeing the destruction along the Bhote Koshi and Trishuli corridors is heartbreaking. We’re hearing from people in different areas, checking in with friends and partners, and trying to understand what has happened.

Right now, we also feel helpless. But we don’t want to stay that way.

We’re closely following the situation and speaking with our partners and local communities to figure out where our support can make the biggest difference. Soon, we’ll share how you can help and what steps we’ll take to support rescue, relief and recovery efforts.

Please keep Rasuwa, Nuwakot, Dhading and all affected communities in your thoughts and prayers.

Nepal is much bigger than the disaster-affected corridor. Kathmandu and Pokhara are still operating, and many parts of the country continue with everyday life, although travel conditions and road access are changing quickly.

For anyone currently travelling or planning to travel in Nepal:

🔹 Follow official safety guidance and listen to local authorities.
🔹 Stay away from flood-affected river corridors and damaged highways.
🔹 Don’t try to cross damaged bridges or roads.
🔹 For essential Kathmandu–Pokhara travel, consider flying while highway conditions remain uncertain.
🔹 Check the latest conditions before travelling and stay in touch with your travel operator.
🔹 Most importantly, don’t put yourself or rescue teams at further risk.

Nepal has been through many difficult moments before. What makes Nepal strong isn’t the absence of disasters, but the solidarity of its people and the kindness of friends around the world.

Our hearts are with the families waiting for news of their loved ones, those who have lost their homes and livelihoods, the rescue teams working in incredibly difficult conditions, and every community along the Bhote Koshi–Trishuli corridor.
