A design overhaul

Moving forward, the department is set to release a total of seven passport types, each featuring a fresh color scheme. The standard passport, currently in green, will undergo a transformation with a new chocolate brown cover. Diplomatic passports will sport an eye-catching crimson red cover, while official passports will adopt a sophisticated navy blue hue. Peacekeeping documents will showcase a distinctive tiger orange shade.

As for the remaining types—travel, temporary, and seaman’s record book—they will be distinguished by black, chocolate brown, and slate-brown covers, respectively. Furthermore, all biometric passports will display a hot foil stamp of the national coat of arms with Nepal’s new map on the front cover.

E-Passports in Nepal:

E-passports, commonly referred to as biometric passports, incorporate a chip to store essential information, including the passport holder's name, date of birth, and other biographic details. These passports surpass traditional Machine Readable Passports (MRPs) in their efficacy against passport fraud. Presently, over 120 nations issue e-passports to their citizens.

They utilize Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) to guarantee the integrity and authenticity of the stored data. The chip is typically embedded either on the front or rear cover of the passport or within the center page.
