Fusemachines recently hosted a knowledge-sharing session for the current batch of AI Fellows in Nepal as they prepare to develop their AI projects.

A key highlight was “Product Thinking in the Age of AI,” led by John B. Park, former Lead Product Manager for Google+ and co-founder of Product Vidhyalaya. He shared practical insights on:

- Building better products by balancing business goals, technology, and user needs.
- Learning continuously through testing and experimentation.
- Reframing problems before choosing solutions.
- Asking “why” to explore different perspectives.
- Focusing on real user friction rather than becoming attached to a specific AI tool or technology.

Fusemachines participated as the strategic partner for the third CEO/Leadership Dialogue, “Supporting Nepali Entrepreneurs through AI Readiness,” held in Chitwan. The dialogue brought together more than 70 entrepreneurs, founders, business leaders, and technology professionals to explore how Nepali enterprises can leverage talent, policy, and AI to compete in an increasingly technology-driven global economy.

Delivering the keynote address, Parag Shrestha, Managing Director for South Asia and Head of Strategy at Fusemachines, discussed how the right strategies, direction, and implementation roadmap can help businesses operate more efficiently, track progress, sustain growth, and expand into global markets. He also highlighted how Nepal’s increasingly favorable technology ecosystem, combined with the emergence of AI as an accessible business co-pilot, can create new opportunities for entrepreneurs and organizations across industries.

Additionally, Rojesh M. Shikhrakar, AI Education Lead at Fusemachines, provided participants with practical insights into developing AI-ready strategies. He discussed the key considerations, implementation approaches, and strategic direction businesses should understand to make AI a valuable co-pilot across different areas of their operations.

We are happy to share that our ML Engineer, Siddhartha Shrestha, served as a Jury Member at the National AI Hackathon 2026, organised by Kodedristi Software and hosted at Nepal College of Information Technology (NCIT).

The hackathon concluded successfully after an intense and inspiring 32-hour journey and it was remarkable to witness talented participants transform ideas into AI solutions while tackling real-world challenges.

During the event, Siddhartha also shared his insights on the evolution of AI, emerging industry trends, and the opportunities ahead for aspiring AI professionals.

Fusemachines is excited to welcome Dr. Julia Hirschberg to its Board of Directors.

Dr. Hirschberg is the Percy K. and Vida L. W. Hudson Professor of Computer Science at Columbia University and former Chair of its CS Department. As one of the world’s most distinguished AI researchers and educators, she brings decades of pioneering expertise to the fields of natural language processing, speech technology, conversational AI, and human-computer interaction.

Before academia, she founded the Human Computer Interface Research Department at AT&T Bell Labs, bridging cutting-edge speech and language research with real-world products. Her career spans both frontier academic research and industry innovation. She has made foundational contributions to spoken language processing and conversational AI, and previously held leadership roles at Bell Laboratories and AT&T Labs Research, where she founded the Human-Computer Interface Research Department. She's an elected member of the National Academy of Engineering and the American Academy of Arts & Sciences, and holds fellowships from ACL, ACM, AAAI, and IEEE.

As AI continues to advance rapidly, especially with the rise of Agentic AI, the need for responsible development and deployment has never been more critical. Dr. Hirschberg’s deep expertise and leadership will provide valuable guidance as Fusemachines continues to strengthen its AI research capabilities and governance approaches, build enterprise AI solutions, and expand its global impact.

Our Director of AI Academics, Rojesh Shikhrakar, participated as a panelist at the 2026 Leadership Policy Dialogue in South Asia: Charting Responsible and Innovative AI Integration in Higher Education.

The dialogue was jointly hosted by the UNESCO Kathmandu Office, Tribhuvan University, Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI).

During the panel, he spoke about the need for structural academia-industry collaboration to address the widening AI talent gap in the region. He also emphasized that building a stronger AI-ready workforce requires deeper and more sustainable collaboration between universities and industry.
