Starlink has expressed support for communities affected by the catastrophic floods in Nepal and the Tibet border region.
In a post on X, the company said it is prepared to deploy satellite internet kits and provide free connectivity to support the Government of Nepal and humanitarian organizations, subject to approval.
Starlink said its technology could help rescue teams, medical workers, and affected families remain connected when roads, bridges, and mobile networks are disrupted.

Possible Load-Shedding in Kathmandu Valley

Continuous heavy rainfall has caused floods and landslides, damaging hydropower projects and transmission lines. This has affected electricity supply in the Kathmandu Valley.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), around 432 MW of electricity supply has been affected. This includes 11 hydropower projects, a 25 MW solar plant, and the main 220 kV Trishuli transmission line that supplies electricity to Kathmandu.

Serious damage in Rasuwa and Nuwakot

- Rasuwa: Floods have damaged hydropower projects and settlements around Timure and Syabrubesi.
- Nuwakot: Floods have affected power plants and electricity infrastructure in Betrawati, Trishuli Bazaar, and Devighat.

Load-shedding may occur

Because electricity demand remains high while some power plants and transmission lines are out of operation, the system is facing a shortage.

The NEA has warned that temporary power cuts may occur in different parts of the Kathmandu Valley until the damaged infrastructure is repaired.

Technical teams have been mobilized to speed up repairs. Residents are advised to prepare for possible power interruptions and follow official updates from the NEA.
