Is Nagarik app a joke?

I thought Nepal had gone digital — until I tried opening a bank account.

Walked into Nabil Bank with:
• Original Citizenship ✔️
• NID visible in Nagarik App ✔️
• Even a signed document photo of Nid document on Whatsapp✔️

Still got rejected.

Reason?
“No original document for Nid"

This is where reality hits.

We talk about Digital Nepal, apps, and online identity — but when it matters most, the system falls back to paper.

Banks (under Nepal Rastra Bank regulations) still don’t fully accept:
• Digital ID
• App-based verification
• Even legitimate documents unless physically present

So what’s the point of digitization if it stops at display and not acceptance?

We’re not lacking technology.
We’re lacking integration and trust between institutions.

Until then:
Digital identity = convenient
Physical document = mandatory

Nepal isn’t failing digitally —
it’s just stuck halfway between paper and progress.
