For its coverage of the 2026 French municipal elections, the TF1 Group once again chose to rely on Pixotope XR technology to visualize key electoral cases and provide the audience with an immersive, dynamic visual experience.
For this edition, political editor Adrien Gindre operates within a dedicated area of the news set equipped with an LED floor and a semi-cylindrical LED wall - a setup specifically designed to enhance the clarity and editorial impact of daily news broadcasts.
The system is powered by three Pixotope engines running on Epic Unreal Engine.
These engines are perfectly synchronized to display the correct parallax in real-time based on the camera's position. Consequently, regardless of the camera angle, the journalist remains within a stable, coherent virtual environment that appears seamlessly integrated into the physical studio space.
This approach provides major advantages:
✓ Perceived Depth: It significantly increases the perceived depth of the studio area, allowing for ambitious staging without physical space constraints.
✓ Editorial Agility: Provides the editorial team with a dynamic graphical environment to illustrate live analyses, transitions between themes, or specific case studies.
A fourth Pixotope engine is dedicated exclusively to Augmented Reality (AR) elements.
These elements are overlaid in the 3D space with an optimal level of visual integration: perspectives, shadows, reflections, and depth consistency are impeccably aligned with the content displayed on the LED backdrop.
This high level of integration is made possible because all four engines utilize the exact same 3D scene, guaranteeing perfect visual continuity between the physical set, the XR projection, and the AR objects.
Through this seamless combination of XR (Extended Reality) and AR (Augmented Reality), TF1 delivers a unique immersive experience - a first in Europe.
This presentation is clearer, more engaging, and more educational, effectively modernizing the aesthetics of live, prime-time news.
