It was described enough in history and psychological experiments from the 1960s that when people don't understand something (here: the nature of the phenomenon, other human's feelings or even achievements!) they: shut you up, change topics, freeze you out, exclude you, fire you, laugh at you, or even... Like it happens to white crows: get you eliminated.
To develop and evolve beyond the level of animals, given to humans by default at birth, requires a lot of work. It is energy-consuming, so the organism of a regular human animal would rather stay in equilibrium and keep on rejecting. Because it requires no action. In some modern cultures, even European ones, just a foreign surname causes friction, primordial fear and your exclusion, not to say your ideas or look. And, they won’t dare to tell you that to your face, because animals bear no responsibility. The logic is simple: “I cannot (do this/abstract this/apply this), so you should not be able either.” Or: “I am no surprise and just like everyone around, so you should be too – otherwise you disturb the equilibrium, and I don’t know how to deal with that because the tribe provided me with no instruction.”
Only the ones, who work on themselves, develop the resource for upgrade of their by-default schema into individuality and personality, capable of making a difference – or a contribution, transforming the tribe into a human society – would naturally need and even demand human diversity and what it brings: looks, names, thoughts, actions, and ideas. The tribe will be holding such individuals back by the only mechanism that it has: shutting you up, changing topics, freezing you out, excluding you, firing you, laughing at YOU, or even eliminating you.
Individual human beings are capable of extrapolation, because they exercised and developed a space for it. To experiment and assume requires just to dare. And then, it is a start for healthy intellectual exercise called humor. Individuals are physically and mentally capable of self-oriented humor, society-oriented humor, which pushes the boundaries of the tribal by-default schema and gives it place for other humans and their diversity. Suddenly, responsibility does not feel scary. The emerged place for personal responsibility leads right away to honesty, first of all towards themselves. That develops flexibility towards others: their looks, thoughts, actions, names, and ideas.
Inclusion and diversity become natural. Change becomes painless and rather happy. And, we collaborate, because the society have a place for bold visions, and for everyone.
