Who's actually behind the code? This is Torstein 👋
Torstein is 37 years old, lives in Bergen, and is working as a Software Architect, currently mostly Backend and Devops for Ditio.
Torstein started his career as a fullstack Developer back in 2011, before he went over to the consulting industry and got to work professionally for Evry, with what he really had a passion for: mobile developement.
He worked there for almost 6 years, and had a lot of exciting customers across different industries, including both banks, insurance, transportation and Health. Pointing to some exciting cases from those years, Torstein mentions Bergen Taxi and Svippr.
"These were taxi apps that were like Uber is today, even before Uber was a thing. Most people living in Bergen that have been driven by a taxi here have knowledge about the Bergen Taxi-app" - Torstein says.
During his time at Evry, he worked himself up the ladder from junior to senior consultant, Tech lead responsibility for mobile at Evry and at the end Team leader for the mobile developers.
In 2018 he left the consulting game, and started working at TV 2, who at the time were moving their mobile Development in-house.
"At TV 2 I contributed to (almost) all of their apps, except Sumo/Play. I also worked a lot on the TV 2 Sports-app with a lot of football, goalshows, live streaming etc. as well as the TV 2 apps for both the News and weather, implementing for example short content videos in a Snapchat/Instagram format."
In 2022 however, Torstein started working for Ditio. With his background from mobile developement he came in to the company to help lift the developement especially around the masshauling solution, today well known as Ditio Flow. Torstein has functioned as Team lead, Tech lead, worked with Project management, fullstack developement, devops and mobile.
"I've been involved in most of the areas where we had the need there and then, while at the same time I wanted to support and contribute to my colleagues' wishes to strengthen their own knowledge and skills on new areas" - Torstein explains.
Today, he mostly works with Backend in Go and Devops with kubernetes. He makes things that the users don't see - the clog Wheels of the system, you could say. His experience has been really good for Flow, especially with his knowledge from the Bergen Taxi-apps.
Outside of work, he spends time with his wife and kids. He also tries to do some Yoga during the day or at the end of the day, and workouts at the gym when the opportunity is there. Gaming is also something Torstein is fond of, when he has the time for it. He also has a hobby that he discovered during the Covid-period, which is baking sourdough bread. In Torsteins own words, this is a hobby he discovered together with "everyone else in the world" during that period.
Here at Ditio we’re glad that Torstein is a part of our team! Later on, we'll also present more members of our team - the ones that are usually just "behind the code".
