Glex steps up the game with a new CEO

Our ambitious team at Glex kicks into overdrive when we team up with Andrew McCann as the new CEO of the company. McCann comes from a recent position as Senior Vice President Subsurface at OKEA ASA, and will start his journey with Glex on February 1st 2024. He will succeed founder Jørgen Engen Napstad, who will take the position as Glex’s CTO.

Andrew McCann has over 25 years of experience, including technical and business leadership positions, in Statoil/Equinor from 1997 and OKEA from 2019. He has mainly worked on the Norwegian Continental Shelf but also has international experience from holding the positions of Head of Petroleum Technology Brazil and Country Manager for Libya, whilst in Equinor. He holds a PhD in Geology from the University of Cambridge, UK.

- Glex has developed unique software services which cover several urgent needs in the energy industry. It has been fascinating to follow the company’s development over the last years and I am really excited to join Glex at a time where the focus is going from development to growth, aiming to significantly increase the company’s income in the coming years, McCann says.

Jørgen Engen Napstad is also looking forward to the next phase for Glex:

- It is with great pleasure and pride that I am stepping aside as CEO of Glex, and handing over the baton to Andrew McCann. Andrew has extensive experience and unique expertise in the energy sector, which makes him very well positioned to take Glex forward.

Napstad will continue in the role of CTO, with overall responsibility for technology and product development. This will allow the team to work more dedicatedly on continuing the development of the Glex Energy platform to become the preferred collaboration platform for energy companies.

In the past year, the company has increased the number of customers considerably, and during the second half of the year the company gained several new key customers.

The next glexpert up in our employee spotlight series is Alen Bhandari.

Alen started working at Glex in August this year. He has a master’s degree in applied computer science with a thesis within Machine Learning. He has also been working as a Unity game developer for several years. We are very happy to have him on board.

The third glexpert out in our employee spotlight series is Wouter Gravendeel. Wouter is half Dutch and half Norwegian, and for the past years he has been studying geology and working part time for Glex.

Wouter has a good proficiency in both programming and geology, and will join the team as a full-time geoscientist as soon as he has finished his masters thesis this fall.

The second glexpert to be highlighted in our Employee spotlight series is Sourav Paul Roman , full-stack developer and ML explorer.

Sourav joined the company early this year and has already made a big impact by taking on major projects and responsibility.

He has a background in software and game development and is currently finishing his masters thesis on using machine learning for image quality assessment and recommendations.

NTNU award to Glex’s digital twin project 🏆

Say hello to Salvador Bascunan, Dennis Kristiansen, and Sebastian Lintvedt! The three students won the prestigious NOK 10 000 NTNU Eureka prize with their Bachelor thesis on developing a digital twin of the Smeaheia area - a carbon capture project in the North Sea. Glex came up with the idea and was their "customer", technology partner and data provider throughout the process.

We are exited and proud to announce that Stratum Reservoir, Rocktype, and Glex have agreed to form a strategic partnership to increase interdisciplinary subsurface understanding and boost value creation on the NCS and beyond.

The partnership will unite rock characterisation domain expertise with gaming visualisation technology and cloud-based analytics capabilities to deliver an integrated data-science platform for core and cuttings data visualisation, machine learning and analytics. Together, the partners will provide support to subscribing companies aiming to increase subsurface understanding by exploiting rock and petrophysics data in an interdisciplinary context, while providing the highest level of digital and visualisation competencies and capabilities.

We will build on what we have developed over the last three years with front-runner project partners M Vest Energy and Lime Petroleum.

This strong partnership will bring unique and industry leading domain expertise on core, cutting and in-depth “RWI knowledge” together, facilitated by an established, working digital platform with interfaces derived from cutting-edge, advanced gaming technology.
