Christiaan Punter of Hifi-Advice.com had the privilege of doing the first ‘extensive listening period’ PA1 review. The amplifiers found their place in his setup and since he felt no reason to switch back to his reference amplifiers, they just stayed there for a few weeks. And then it happened. At the end of the review period Christiaan sat down to compare the PA1s with his reference system and to his surprise “the PA1s were actually nimbler, more immediate, and more communicative. (…) They excel in the area I find most important: letting the music speak for itself.”.

Christiaan became so enthusiastic about the PA1s that he offered them his “HFA Favorite” award and decided to buy them… We copy an excerpt of his review below, but please make sure to read the full text at Christiaan’s Hifi Advice website.

“The PA1s sound relaxed and unhurried, but definitely not slow or thick. They are highly lyrical and engaging, very articulate, nimble, and dynamically expressive. They can be incredibly fast, but only if the music requires it. They don’t always sound fast, which can translate to a dry or staccato rendition or shortened decay. Impressively, despite their communicative nature, they never shout or try to impress. Instead, these amplifiers disappear altogether, and you simply forget about them. And that is the highest praise I can give an amplifier. The PA1s aren’t cheap, but I can honestly say nothing in that price range comes close.”

Jaap Veenstra of Alpha Audio checked out the PA1 monoblock amps in a high performance audio system. And he became very happy of what he heard, even offering it their ‘Alpha Approved’ award!

“What’s also striking is the coherence in timbre across the entire spectrum. The bass blends seamlessly with the midrange and treble, even at higher volumes, which can sometimes go wrong with power amplifiers that aren’t as well-designed as this PA1.
(…)
Rhythmically, too, it’s all put together exceptionally well. When we play “Pneuma” by Tool, for example—an incredibly beautiful song in which (as befits Tool) the drums carry the track—everything holds together effortlessly, and we can follow it all with ease. In fact, we’ve never heard this song sound this good! The layering is simply unparalleled.

And that brings us to the final point: control and calm. Because the Grimm PA1 maintains control so effortlessly and shows no sign of compression (or other distortion), everything holds together effortlessly. And that brings calmness to the music. Impressive!

What a remarkable product yet again. Grimm just keeps coming up with gear that’s simply top-of-the-range. We are, and always will be, big fans of this wonderful company from the Netherlands. The Grimm PA1 ticks all the right boxes: smooth, transparent, rhythmically accurate, controlled… Of course, they don’t make the music themselves. But they certainly know how to present it in a truly compelling way. Hats off to them. Alpha Approved!”

In the international forum Audiophile Style, ‘DuckToller’ just published a wonderful 3-part story about his experience when visiting our room at the Vienna High End show last June where we introduced the PA1 monoblock amplifiers with our MU2 streamer DAC and a ‘study model’ passive loudspeaker. Eelco Grimm played ‘No Woman No Cry’ of Bob Marley (live recorded on July 17th, 1975) and this was a recording DuckToller “knows by heart, and that heart really loves it.” He then explains what the album means to him and what he experienced in our room. Please enjoy a little taste of it:

“In the room, I did not analyse the take. I was instantly beamed into the concert hall, guided by my memories: the cover, the song, the Lyceum atmosphere, the physical memory of the record, the teenage years, the DJ years.

(…)

A system can play "No Woman, No Cry" loudly and still miss everything. The Grimm system didn’t!
To my ears, the whole 1975 Lyceum recording has always felt like a packed, sweaty, overheated room captured on tape. It stands like a physical wall of heat and sound. The joy of the audience is instantly recognisable. On most imperfect playback chains, it does not give away a great deal of space. The atmosphere is there, though it often suffocates the spatiality.
What the Grimm Audio system did with this specific recording in that room was almost surreal for me.
It gave that dense, hot Lyceum recording the maximum amount of space I could possibly imagine. The Grimm system did not make the record sound new. It made it sound more complete.

(…)

For me, Grimm Audio was Best of Show at Vienna 2026. (…) Out of reach, yes. Straight to the heart, absolutely. I did not leave Vienna with a Grimm system. I left with a tender memory of one.”

Please read the full 3-part story of DuckToller at Audiophilestyle. He has a great pen and is able to find words for the very emotion that makes us love audio and music so much.

September 12-13 the StereoNET Hi-Fi & AV Expo UK is held in London at the Radisson Red Convention Center and Hotel at Heathrow airport. Grimm Audio exhibits in Room Atlantis 2 and Eelco Grimm will be present to support UK distributor Andy Baker of Sound Design Distribution. We expect our large room to be filled quite well since we play the new PA1 monoblock amplifiers with a MU2 and PW1 as source and our passive loudspeaker ‘study model’ that we showed at the Vienna and Singapore high end shows earlier this year. This set received ‘best of show’ acclaim by many.

For those familiar with UK audio shows through the ages, the StereoNET UK Hi-Fi & AV Expo is the merger of the long-running UK Audio Show and the re-established London Audio Show. Entrance is free after registration. We love to see you there and play you some great music on this amazing set.

In Stereophile Magazine’s Brilliant Corners #41, Alex Halberstadt writes about the time he lived with the MU2 in his system. He starts by thanking us for striving for perfection in stead of accepting “good enough” philosophies. And then he talks about all the great hours of music listening he enjoyed, highlighting many records. His pieces are always a joy to read. We copy some excerpts below, but please read the original article on Stereophile’s homepage.

“One of the first tracks I listened to through the Grimm was a Qobuz stream of "My Funny Valentine" from Paul Desmond's Desmond Blue, an album that shouldn't work but does. (…) But what surprised me, given this track's streamed, disembodied origin, was its emotional accessibility. Desmond's improvisation is freighted with more despair than most readings of the Rodgers and Hart standard, and the Grimm conveyed the inward, lacerating quality of the performance with insight and force. Hearing this from a digital file was both unexpected and exciting.

This inspired me to play one of those records I rarely try to listen to on digital: Dreaming My Dreams, the song cycle Waylon Jennings recorded in 1975. (…) Some digital components extract copious detail but do it surgically, without regard for the music's texture, density, and ambience, killing the patient on the table. But on the album's rollicking opener, "Are You Sure Hank Done It This Way," the MU2 illuminated the song's structure without smothering its excitement or scrubbing away its messy energy and drive. And Jennings's blustering guitar solo, one of the most memorable he's recorded, came through without being hollowed out or polished into dullness.

(…)

The Grimm is one of those rare components that nails both functionality and performance while remaining reliable. It offers some of the best—and least musically destructive—sound from streaming I've experienced. (…) Handing the Grimm back to the FedEx guy was no fun at all.”

We are very happy to let you know that this week we are building the first batch of PA1’s. So far we only had a couple of prototypes, now it starts to become reality!

Comments from the first dealers who auditioned the PA1 prototypes are coming in. Without exception they are totally overwhelmed by their performance. One told us that when comparing them to the most impressive amplifiers on the market the PA1’s “put some to shame”. He even wrote a short review to us:

“The Grimm PA1 made an immediate impression on me with its exceptionally natural, effortless, and energetic presentation. Vocals are reproduced with remarkable body and presence, revealing fine details while retaining a natural warmth—qualities that are surprisingly rare among amplifiers on the market today.

With familiar classical recordings, the PA1 impressed me even further. The tonal accuracy of individual instruments is striking, while its sense of control remains exceptional, particularly as the volume is pushed to higher levels. The music stays composed, precise, and convincing without losing its natural flow or vitality.”

The Hans Beekhuyzen Channel, internationally known on Youtube, had the privilege of publishing the first review of our new PA1 mono block power amplifiers. Hans talks about the PA1’s functionality and the technique under the hood and then clearly outlines his opinion on the sound quality:
“The stereo image is wide and deep. Spaces between the instruments are well defined and the background is pitch black. (…) Dynamics are perfectly rendered as are microdynamics. We could never hear any coloration on any instrument and no instrument influenced other instruments.”

His payoff stunned us:
“Don't go to demos if your budget is too tight, for you will be sold within 3 minutes and then you might need another 5 minutes to admit you're sold.”

Soon we will start to ship the first units to more reviewers and dealers. Stay tuned…

We have enjoyed a very succesful StereoNET Hi-Fi & AV Expo in Singapore. The room was packed all three days… and still is in the closing hours. People were amazed by both our active and passive systems that were considered by many in local social groups as ‘best of show’. Kudos to our local distributor Project Perfection Pte Ltd, thanks Desmond!

JPLAY is an audiophile oriented music playback and control app for iOS and MacOS. With today’s JPLAY v1.4.3 update a full integration of the app with our MU1 and MU2 streamers is achieved. The MU1 and MU2’s UPnP interface supports ‘UPnP Eventing’ and JPLAY embraces this method in their latest release. As a result the JPLAY software receives information about a status change of the MU1 and MU2 streamers, such as upon a volume change or a pause message via the main k**b, the IR remote or the GRUI web interface. Since the status communication is now bidirectional, the user will experience a seamless integration. JPLAY configures all settings automatically when it streams to a MU1 or MU2, which ensures a smooth operation.

Grimm Audio is very happy to join the JPLAY Certified Partner Program, which guarantees that JPLAY is tested on stability, compatibility and performance on the MU1 and MU2.

“We love to offer our customers a rich user experience and so we are thrilled that JPLAY now offers full integration with the MU1 and MU2. JPLAY is without doubt one of the finest hi-fi apps on the market and it’s great that it became a natural extension of our products,“ said Eelco Grimm. Marcin Ostapowicz, founder of JPLAY, responded: "Working with the Grimm Audio team has been a pleasure — they care about the details the way we do. With Eventing in place, the MU1, MU2 and JPLAY now behave as one integrated system, whichever way you prefer to control your music.”

More info about JPLAY can be found at their website https://jplay.app/
