Cybersecurity and European Data Sovereignty in Munich
Exactly a week ago, we had the honor of participating in the second edition of the German-Dutch Cyber Security Event in Munich, hosted by the Consulaat-Generaal van het Koninkrijk der Nederlanden in München - Marlou Peters and EY. This inspiring event brought together decision-makers and experts from the Netherlands and Germany to discuss crucial topics like AI, data, compliance, and the future of European Data Sovereignty. 🇩🇪🇳🇱
The event began with powerful opening remarks from Dr. Fabian Mehring, Bavarian State Minister for Digital Affairs, who highlighted the importance of cybersecurity for Germany and Europe, the economic impact of cybercrime, and the urgency of European collaboration. Jip Mennen, Cyber and Security Diplomat at the Dutch Embassy in Berlin, followed with insights into international cybersecurity policies, offering ideas for even closer collaboration between Germany and the Netherlands.
A major highlight was the breakout session on European Data Sovereignty, a topic central to the future of Europe's data landscape. The session explored:
📌 How evolving regulatory frameworks are defining and influencing data sovereignty.
📌 Strategies for balancing the free flow of data with the need for control and protection.
📌 A great mix of Dutch and German organizations, showcasing diverse perspectives and approaches to tackling shared challenges.
Thank you to speakers Nina-Sophie Sczepurek, Valentijn Koppenaal, and Jan Martijn Broekhof for their valuable insights in this engaging session.
Additionally, keynote presentations by Matthias Bandemer, Germany Cybersecurity Services Leader at EY, and Wouter Goudswaard of Eye Security GmbH, provided critical perspectives on AI, compliance, and managing cyber risks.
Breakout sessions covered diverse themes, from industrial security to the role of women in cybersecurity. The event concluded with a panel discussion on shared cybersecurity challenges and networking opportunities, reinforcing the importance of cross-border collaboration to secure our data future.
This event was part of the Partners for International Business (PIB) Germany Programme, a collaboration between Dutch public and private sectors aimed at strengthening cybersecurity standards in both countries. Led by Security Delta (HSD) and InnovationQuarter this initiative strives to facilitate meaningful connections and foster innovations that transcend boundaries.
