𝗔𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘃𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗷𝘂𝘀𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗳𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗹𝗼𝗰𝗸𝘀 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗻𝗼𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆 𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝗼𝗮𝗿𝗱.

Last week, a Watertruck operated by Belgian building materials company André Celis navigated through four locks on the Leuven-Dijle canal, fully unmanned. The vessel was remotely controlled from Seafar's Shore Control Center in Antwerp. Just technology, precision, and a connection that could not afford to fail.

Until now, lock passages were still excluded from the legal framework for commercial unmanned sailing in Flanders. This milestone changes that, and opens the door for new regulation that could accelerate the future of autonomous inland shipping across Europe.

What makes this possible? Among other things, an uninterrupted connection between the vessel and the shore. Seafar has built its remote operations Peplink connectivity, supplied by Frontier EU, allowing remote operators to monitor, communicate with, and control vessels without interruption. Because in remote vessel operations, a lost connection is not an inconvenience, it is a safety risk.
