Zomercampagne, strak schema, en de machinist wacht op de piketteur.

Nederland heeft weinig droge weken. Als ze er zijn, liggen de schema's vol en staat iedereen onder druk. In de praktijk wacht de machinist op uitzetting, leest een gevouwen plan op het dashboard en schat de hoogte. Overgraven, kabelschade of extra controlerondjes zijn het directe gevolg.

Trockene Wochen sind in Deutschland selten. Wenn sie kommen, sind die Bauzeitenpläne voll und der Druck ist hoch. In der Praxis wartet der Fahrer auf Pflöcke, liest einen geknickten Plan auf dem Armaturenbrett und schätzt die Solltiefe.

Überaushub, Leitungsschäden und zusätzliche Kontrollrunden sind die direkte Folge.

Summer window, packed programme, and the operator is sat waiting for the setting-out crew.

The UK doesn't get many dry weeks. When they arrive, every contractor is running full schedules and cutting corners to keep up. In practice the operator waits on timber pegs, reads a creased drawing on the dashboard, and estimates formation level. Over-dig, cable strike, and extra verification rounds follow.

Most fibre network operators know the pain: kilometres of duct and cable go in the ground, and the as-built documentation doesn't keep up.
