Happy IBM PC Day! 💻✨

On August 12, 1981, IBM launched the model 5150 - the machine that officially brought the “Personal Computer” into the mainstream and changed the tech landscape forever.

Back then, storing data meant relying on modest hard drives and floppy disks holding just a fraction of a megabyte. Today, that data lives in massive, high-density data centres across the globe - and the team at Red Bear is proud to be at the forefront of building the modern infrastructure that makes it all possible.

We’ve come a long way from desktop towers, but we’re honored to help shape the next chapter of data evolution every single day. 🔴🐻💾➡️🌐

Quick question for the Red Bear community: Who here had an IBM (or an IBM-compatible) as their very first computer? 🙋‍♂️🙋‍♀️ Iain Farquharson BSc CDCDP we know you’ll have something to say on this. 😎

Drop a comment below with your first setup or your favorite memory of that classic floppy drive hum! 👇

Five Years of Red Bear: Reflecting on Growth and Planning the Future

Red Bear Tech turned five in March this year. We are grateful to have experienced rapid growth as a relative newcomer to the market, and we recognise that continued success requires pausing to reflect, improve, and plan for the future.

This week, our SLT and business leaders met in Groningen to do just that. It was a productive week of workshops, open communication, and team building. These few days were incredibly valuable for reinforcing our connections in person rather than behind a screen.

We are excited for the next steps and have plenty of action items to work on to continue strengthening our market position with the support of our brilliant teams.

Keep following us for the journey!

Why workforce planning matters - not just hands on deck”.
- Nicky Keaveny, Workforce Manager, Red Bear Tech

Nicky says:

“The project we just wrapped up in Hamburg is a perfect example of why getting your workforce planning right actually matters.

I was on the initial client call to unpack the scope and figure out what they actually needed before making any decisions. From there, my focus was simple: put together a team that could get the job done properly and on time, rather than just throwing warm bodies at the problem. I handpicked six operatives I knew would be a perfect fit for the job, sourcing the right equipment to give them the best chance of success. That’s where having genuine, strong relationships with our labour suppliers pays off; It’s not about numbers, it’s about consistently putting the right people in the right roles.

With the green light from our leadership team, we got to work. The project went smoothly, and the feedback out of Hamburg has been brilliant also opening the door to further opportunities with this client.

Look, I’m the first to admit I won’t get every single call right. But when you have real trust with your suppliers, you can pivot fast, fix issues on the fly, and keep things moving. For me, that’s exactly what this job is: bridging the gap between what the client expects and what actually happens on-site, and making sure we never try to force a square peg into a round hole”.

Opening the doors to the next generation of data centre talent. 👷‍♂️👷‍♀️ 💼

Today is World Youth Skills Day, a global movement dedicated to equipping young people with the skills they need to build thriving, future-proof careers.

At Red Bear Tech, we believe the best way to support young careers is to show them just how dynamic, high-growth, and exciting the digital infrastructure world really is.

This week, we are thrilled to be hosting our latest work experience candidates! Organised and championed by our Business Development Director, Johanna James, this structured program is designed to give these aspiring professionals a complete, 360-degree view of the data centre ecosystem.

Rather than just showing them one corner of the office, Johanna has coordinated a full tour across all of our departments. From the analytical precision of Pre-Construction and estimating to the fast-paced coordination of project management and on-site engineering, our candidates are getting a front-row seat to how hyper-scale infrastructure is brought to life.

Our mission? To spark real curiosity, break down the boundaries of what they think engineering is, and excite them to become the future leaders of our industry.

A massive thank you to Johanna and the entire Red Bear team for opening their doors and sharing their expertise this week!

Shouting out the unsung heroes in the field.

When temperatures soar past 30°C (86°F), executing heavy industrial work in full PPE isn’t just difficult, it requires a level of grit, discipline, and commitment that deserves to be recognized.

Our very own James Smock recently visited our offsite warehouse in Hamina, Finland, to support the team and conduct an audit during the newly launched CSX works.

The audit was a resounding success, with all processes being followed to the highest standard. But the true highlight of the trip? Watching the OSP cabling team in action.

James was incredibly impressed by the sheer professionalism and steadfast commitment to safe working practices on display, especially given the challenging, high-heat conditions.

Huge credit goes to Jason Foggo’s OSP cabling team, brilliantly supervised by Barry Lenaghan and Paul Power. You are setting the gold standard for field operations! 👏

The lads managed to pause for a quick breather to catch these shots before heading back out to crush the next phase of the project. 📸👇

Today is a very important day for our Surinamese family. It symbolizes the breaking of chains - the historical end of slavery. Happy Keti Koti!

Every year on July 1st, major celebrations and memorial services take place in Dutch cities, most notably at the National Monument to the History of Slavery in Amsterdam’s Oosterpark. It serves as a beautiful reminder of the incredible strength, rich culture, and enduring spirit of the Surinamese people.

Whether you are enjoying a plate of heri heri, dressing in beautiful kotomisi, or gathering with loved ones to share stories, we wish you a day filled with pride, unity, and love.

🏗️ Strong roots, brilliant engineering

Today is a unique double-header for us at Red Bear. It marks both International Women in Engineering Day and National Family Owned & Operated Businesses Day, giving us the perfect opportunity to celebrate our brilliant team and give a proud nod to our parent company, ASEE Group.

At Red Bear, we have always benefited from the best of both worlds. Through ASEE, we are grounded in the core values, trust, and long-term commitment that come with a dedicated, family-led enterprise. That strong foundation is what allows us to look forward, innovate, and champion the very best engineering talent in the industry.

Today, we are shining a massive spotlight on the incredible women engineers across both Red Bear and the wider ASEE group. From pre-construction planning to on-site delivery, their expertise, problem-solving, and leadership are vital to driving our projects forward. Engineering is all about diverse perspectives coming together to solve complex challenges, and we are incredibly proud of the women leading the way on our teams.

A huge thank you to the brilliant women on our engineering teams today, and to our ASEE family for providing the foundation that helps us all grow.
Join us in celebrating the engineers pushing our industry forward today! ⚙️👏
