In today's present day, we are all looking to get connected. Internet has significantly changed our lives, by allowing us to get connected with people far away from a country you have never heard of. Connectivity enables communication amongst people, the exchange of information between people and machines and allows the world to communicate. Connectivity has, in essence, become the world's nervous system. From huge data transfers in developed countries to the rising demand in underdeveloped regions; in today's world, you have to be connected.
Of course, this trend did not go unseen for us at Vention. More and more customers came with the request to develop a connected, so called ‘smart’, sensor with us. From start-ups to large corporates, from a small idea to an elaborate business plan. However, there was one thing that those demands had in common: the need for a motion sensor. This motion sensor could be small and cheap, or complex and costly, but the similarity had formed.
Vention is not unfamiliar with internal development projects; take a look at Focus (www.findfocus.nl) for example, a split-off which was founded last January. To answer the rising demand of smart sensors, we have started up the design and development of our own smart sensor platform. This platform's purpose is to serve as the base platform for the ever-varying request of customers. The smart sensor platform will have a rechargeable battery on board, which can be adjusted to the wishes of the customer: small and efficient, or large and prolonged, each with its own correct battery management system. The motion sensor can also be adjusted according to wish. For the user interface, capacitive touch buttons are getting more accurate and can be disguised in the casing nicely.
For connectivity, mostly Bluetooth and/or Wi-Fi is the right solution, which can easily be implemented. However, when this is not satisfactory, LoRa can be used as well enabling long-range, low-data rate and low power communication.
By developing this smart sensor platform right now, we are able to not only provide in the request from customers but also to innovate ourselves, prototype (even) faster than normal and keep the price as low as possible for our customers.
