Share your knowledge and learn from others in return, join our user forum today!

We are excited to introduce our user forum, a place where you can share your insights and benefit from the contributions of others.

While we strive to assist you with comprehensive documentation, tutorials, and our support helpdesk, we recognize the immense value of the collective user and field experience that all of you possess. Often, we receive questions that we are confident have answers already available but not easily accessible. Therefore, we invite you to join our forum to help build a knowledge base that we all can benefit from.

To maintain the quality of the forum, we will only allow members who can prove they are legitimate users or partners.

Lorenz would probably prefer the installation on the left side, as its design is evidently inspired by chaos theory. Meanwhile, on the right, the data logger, batteries, charge controller, and Swarm modem are neatly integrated into a single, compact, weatherproof enclosure. Most importantly, the unit on the right has consistently demonstrated reliable communication via the Swarm space constellation anywhere on the planet, as the system minimizes RF noise, thereby avoiding interference with sensitive interterrestrial communication signals. Despite the product being at its End of Life stage, the request to replace the left-side installation with our solution is seen as a genuine reward for our engineering department.

Our data loggers are designed to operate self-sustaining and unattended, collecting measurements at remote locations and transmitting time series at regular intervals via the cellular network to your decision-making system in the cloud or elsewhere.

Due to, among other reasons, the versatility of our vendor-independent inputs, some may wish to deploy the data logger outside of its designed purpose, such as using it as a sensor hub for local on-premises systems. In FW4.8B16, we have recently extended our radio output to include the possibility of transmitting measurements as custom-formatted NMEA-0183 sentences, which can be easily interpreted by systems supporting custom-formatted NMEA-0183 sentences.

This feature could be useful in dredging operations, where a downstream water quality buoy transmits its measurements to an upstream dredging vessel to monitor the impact of their dredging.

Is YDOC considering to implement AI in their low power remote data loggers?

is continuously considering new features to enhance the functionality of their .

The historic data collected by data loggers is an ideal feed for AI to process and analyze for various purposes, such as:

: AI can help detect anomalies and identify potential failures before they occur, reducing downtime and costs.

: AI can use historical data to generate accurate and reliable forecasts for demand, supply, weather, and more.

: AI can alert users to critical situations, such as environmental hazards, security breaches, or equipment malfunctions.

: AI can help filter out noise and irrelevant data, improving the quality and efficiency of data analysis.

However, implementing features on a data loggers themselves may not be the best option, as it can increase the hardware costs and battery drain, which would negate the benefits of why affordable low power remote data loggers are in use. Instead, it may be better to implement such features at the cloud system side, as it can correlate the data with many other sources to come to even better insights. This way, the data loggers can focus on their core function of collecting and transmitting data, while the cloud system can handle the AI processing and analysis.

Don't let things derail!

Sudden changes in process levels can cause stress and potentially lead to system failures. In example the opening or closing of valves in a water distribution network are sending shock waves through the network and depending of their magnitudes leading to rupture of pipes and fittings. Therefore it is import to monitor such transitions to be able to take preventive measures in time. Capturing transitions requires recording at high speed, causing continuous power consumption and an unmanageable amount of data, consequently very challenging for constraint low power remote monitoring devices to deal with until now.

We have just released ydocTerminal V3.22 in which we have added two more supportive features, a "Modbus-terminal"-tool and an "Equation evaluation"-tool.

The “MODBUS Terminal”-tool can be used to service connected MODBUS devices more easily, whether connected directly to ydocTerminal or indirectly thru a local (USB), wireless (BLE) or remote (TCP) accessible YDOC data logger.

The “Equation evaluator”-tool can be used to evaluate calculated channel equations on your PC in case you don’t have a data logger at hand or in case you think its more convenient to you.

Please consult the manual for more details:

Our can transfer data over secure MQTTs, FTPS or HTTPS, but TLS comes with a lot of overhead causing a lot more payload and power consumption than when using our own secure protocol. After a data logger receives the challenge, it can transfer the command, authentication and encrypted data in one push, wait for an acknowledgement and disconnect again.
