Welcome to the official AMS-IX page. We are a non-profit, member-based association operating multiple interconnection platforms around the world.

AMS-IX (Amsterdam Internet Exchange) offers professional IP exchange services and operates various neutral and independent Internet Exchanges, including the world's largest in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

Since launching EG-IX in April 2022 together with Telecom Egypt https://www.linkedin.com/company/telecom-egypt/, we have seen steady growth in the community and the traffic exchanged in Cairo.

By Q3 2026, the number of connected networks had grown from 4 to 19, almost five times the number at launch.

Peak traffic reached 945 Gigabit per second, almost three times the level recorded in 2025. In the first nine months of 2026, the total traffic volume reached 1.22 Exabyte, already more than two and a half times the volume exchanged during the whole of 2025.

These developments demonstrate the growing role of EG-IX in supporting local interconnection in Egypt and strengthening connectivity across Africa and the Middle East.

AMS-IX welcomes Aleksandar Vasiljevic https://www.linkedin.com/in/a-vasiljevic/ as Chief Product & Technology Officer (CPTO) and Erwin Maas https://www.linkedin.com/in/erwinmaas/ as Chief Operations Officer (COO).

We are adapting our organisational structure to further optimise processes and create a clearer distinction between daily operations and the development of new products, services and innovations.

Aleksandar joins us from TomTom, where he played an important role in developing new features and products for customers worldwide. As CPTO, he will focus on technology, innovation and the further development of our product and service portfolio.

Erwin joins us from Northwave, where he established and led the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) and temporarily served as COO. He also brings extensive experience from the Royal Netherlands Navy, where he led large-scale technical projects. As COO, he will oversee daily operations and further strengthen the reliability, continuity and resilience of our infrastructure.

This new structure strengthens our focus on innovation and the development of new services, as well as on efficient, reliable and future-ready operations.

A great start to EPF!

Our CEO Peter van Burgel opened the event by reflecting on developments across the Netherlands and Europe, and why resilience is more important than ever.

He also shared updates from AMS-IX, including our NOC team’s follow the sun way of working, the Bright Networks Club reaching 200 members, and the launch of Time-as-a-Service.

Great to have the community together again to connect, exchange ideas and share knowledge!

Internet traffic never sleeps. Streaming continues to grow, broadcast is moving towards IP, and AI agents could bring even more 24/7 traffic to our networks.

The Traffic Radar initiative explores how Content Providers, CDNs and ISPs can work together to better anticipate traffic peaks and optimise network capacity.

Attending the European Peering Forum in Paris next week? Don’t miss the Traffic Radar working group’s session. Together with our Innovation Manager Jan van Boesschoten, the group will share its ideas on information exchange and how Traffic Radar could be governed and developed.
