Bijna!!!!!

Omdat hij van cruciaal belang is geweest in het succes van Kyteman vroeg ik Johan Gijsen om een voorwoord te schrijven voor het fotoboek over The Kyteman Orchestra. Gelukkig zei hij ja! Het wordt een prachtige tekst, waar momenteel zelfs vanuit Texas aan geschaafd wordt. Maar een klein stuk ervan wilde ik alvast met jullie delen:

"Half verscholen onder een hoge hoed zette hij, in de schaduw van de schijnwerpers, de trompet aan z’n lippen. Minimaal begeleid door toetsen, bas en drums blies hij krachtig een warme melancholische melodie door het publiek en tegelijkertijd menig oud onbereikbaar stof van de kroonluchters. Iedere noot leek uit z’n kleine teen geperst te worden..."

De hele tekst lees je straks in het boek natuurlijk, als het van de drukker komt. Maar voor nu alvast hartstikke bedankt Johan!

12 international photographers worked over three intense days to explore potential concepts and designs for their own (and each others) photobook projects at the LensCulture masterclass with Teun van der Heijden and Sandra van der Dolen. It was amazing to spread out each photographer’s work on the table and then discuss the stories, images, ideas, sequence, edits, flow and format for each project.

This coming weekend, everyone returns to Amsterdam to share their book dummies (works in progress), and then we will all refine, revise and produce near-final book dummies. It’s a truly stimulating experience to be with so many talented people who are passionate about the visual language of photography and the art of making books.
