Two kinds of marketing.

Assets (SEO, content, ads) attract people, but the returns fade when you stop investing.

Engines (referrals, reviews, word of mouth) get stronger the bigger you get.

Every happy customer adds another person who might refer you, review you, or make content about you. That's the part that compounds.

How do you track a referral with no checkout? Track the introduction, not the sale. Use a referral link (not a code) and release the reward only when the person hits a real milestone in your CRM: approved loan, funded account, booked meeting. referral-factory.com/referral-tracking

The fastest way to get a finance referral program shut down is rewarding the wrong thing. Reward a valid introduction (not a closed sale or guaranteed return), disclose it, cap it, keep records, and it survives a compliance review. In B2B there's no checkout, so there's no obvious moment to attach a referral to. That's why most programs never track them properly.

Stop tracking the transaction and start tracking the relationship: a referral link, a lead form, or a sales-assisted introduction logged from the first conversation. Then you can follow it all the way from "someone introduced us" to "we signed the deal," even across a six-month cycle.

You can't reward what you can't see. Track the relationship, not the sale.

The most common reason B2B referral programs fail: they reward the company instead of the person.

A discount on the next invoice sounds generous. But the individual who actually made the introduction, the person who put their own credibility on the line, gets nothing they can feel. So they don't do it again.

Reward the human. Recognition, access, something that matters to them personally, paid out on a real sales milestone rather than a vague promise. In B2B, status and exclusivity often beat cash.

Companies don't make referrals. People do. Reward accordingly.

Marketing teams will happily throw another 20% at ads that are already underperforming, then agonise over a $20 referral reward that only gets paid out when someone actually buys.

We see it constantly. Paid feels safe because everyone does it. Referral feels risky because it's your customers doing the talking.

Your customers were already recommending you. You just weren't rewarding them for it.
