9/9 It was a journey making this, and I worked on it with a lot of attention and care. I will never forget Fien, who I never even knew, nor her parents, who inspired me, with the way they where dealing with this terrible loss. Niks dan goeds voor jullie vanaf hier Wytske & Nik

5/9 I always like to use material and details that mean something to me. Things I bring from travel for example. For this work I asked Fien’s parents if they might have some things they wanted me to use.
Last photo was sent to me by her dad, the treasures found in her jacket and backpack.
These little ‘stones’ around the house where from a little shell found by Fien. Although I took the broken pieces, crushing it even further felt a bit rude to a little girls treasure and I sincerelly quietly apologized.

4/9 Can’t let the house be empty. Not really visible when finished, I made these details for no one else but Fien.

On the wall hangs a photo of Fien with her little sister, Kaat.
The blanket was made with a little piece of fabric from Fiens favourite pyjama’s.

3/9 At the request of Fiens parents I looked for a twig to let the tree resemble the tree of the Efteling (a dutch theme park).
Made a series of houses to find the right fit.

2/9 The base of the star is made of rose quartz, picket out by Fien’s parents. Not only does it have the perfect pinkish-star-look, it’s spiritual meanings are also beautiful.
I never worked with such a heavy stone before, and it took some extra care to put in place at the end, but I think it was worth it.

1/9 This is an ode to Fien, a 5 year old girl who passed away last year. According to Fien, when you die, you’ll go to your own little star, and have your own little house there.
So as requested by her parents, I made Fien a star.

I want to take the time to tell this story, as it made a deep impression on me. I was left with deep respect for Fiens mom and dad whom I met under these enormous circumstances. Honoured to be able to do something that hopefully contributed, if only a little bit, to giving this a place.
I will be sharing more in the coming days.
