7.6 million vinyl LPs sold in the UK last year. Up 13.3% on 2024. A 30-fold increase since 2008.

The vinyl revival is real and it is not just a feel-good story for music lovers.

For independent labels and rights holders it means physical contracts are back on the table. Artwork files, liner notes, mechanical licences across multiple territories, catalogue documentation that needs to hold up at scale. All the things people assumed they had left behind in the digital transition.

The work of properly organising your assets never really goes away. It just changes shape.

Tomorrow marks the anniversary of Leonard Cohen’s passing.

His catalogue reminds us that music does not pause with time.

It continues to move across borders, formats and generations, often becoming more complex as the years go by.

Publishing, recordings, rights splits, territories and usage history all play a role.

Without clear structure, even the most iconic catalogues can become difficult to manage.

Longevity in music is rarely accidental.

It is built on clarity, consistency and decisions made long before they feel urgent.

Music catalogue transfers are becoming more common and a lot more complicated.

It is no longer just about moving assets from A to B. Ownership, contract terms, territory overlaps and hidden dependencies all come into play, and when those pieces are not clear, things slow down fast.

That is when uncertainty kicks in and costs start stacking up for both labels and artists.

If you are dealing with a transfer, planning one, or already feeling that something is off, get in touch and let’s bring structure, clarity and control back into the process.

At , we're all about giving you that clarity and control - because the people behind the music deserve to switch off without worry.

Wishing you a calm and meaningful holiday season. 🎵

Yesterday, Lee Morrison presented rightsHUB at the IMS Accelerator in Dubai, sharing how our platform helps labels, publishers and catalogue owners manage their music assets with confidence and clarity. It was an inspiring session with innovators from across the industry.

Today, Lee is back on stage for the panel Rhythm & Return: Valuing Music as an Asset, discussing how music catalogues are becoming a major area of investment and why strong data and rights management matter more than ever.

International Music Summit Dubai has been full of great conversations and new connections, and we’re excited to keep building on the momentum.

Here are a few photos from yesterday’s pitch. If you’re in Dubai today and want to learn more about rightsHUB or have a chat with Lee, feel free to reach out.

AI is changing music forever—but the legal side is a mess 🎵

If you're an independent artist or work in music rights, you're probably wondering what the hell is going on with AI and who actually owns what anymore.

The big questions everyone's asking:
→ How do you protect your music when AI can copy your style?
→ What happens when AI learns from your songs?
→ If you use AI to help write a track, who owns it?

Here's what I know for sure: if you don't have solid rights management in place, you're going to get left behind.

Sitting back and hoping for the best? That's not going to work.

What should independent artists be demanding to protect themselves in this AI world?

🤯 This punk rock label just did something INCREDIBLE

Hopeless Records bought Fat Wreck Chords (yeah, THAT Fat Wreck Chords - NOFX, Lagwagon, all those legends) and here's the crazy part...

They DELETED every single artist's debt. GONE. 💸

You know how most record deals work, right? Artists stay in debt to their labels forever, never seeing real royalties. But Hopeless said "Nah, we're wiping the slate clean."

Fat Mike and the whole Fat Wreck crew are now earning from day one.

This isn't charity either. It's brilliant business: when you treat artists like actual partners instead of debtors, everyone makes more money. Artists are happier, they create better music, fans stay engaged.

This could totally change how label deals work. What if we stopped pretending artists were the problem and started building systems that actually work FOR them? 🤔

Have you ever been stuck owing money to a label? This shows there's a better way to do music business.

A $775M deal that could change everything for indie musicians.

Universal is trying to buy Downtown Music for three-quarters of a billion dollars, but the EU is putting on the brakes.

Over 200 independent music reps are basically saying "HOLD UP" 🛑

Why should you care?

Downtown owns some pretty crucial stuff:
- CD Baby (where tons of indies distribute)
- FUGA (major distribution infrastructure)
- Songtrust (royalty collection service)

The EU decides on July 22 whether this mega-deal goes through or gets blocked.

Here's the real talk: When big companies swallow up the platforms that independents rely on, it usually doesn't end well for the little guys. Less choice, higher fees, more hoops to jump through.

We're seeing this pattern everywhere in music - the big players keep getting bigger while indies get squeezed out.

At rightsHUB, we believe artists and labels should have alternatives that aren't controlled by corporate giants. That's why we're building decentralized tools that put YOU in control of your music rights and royalties.
