The World Economic Forum recently published an article by Honghao Deng, CEO of Butlr Technologies, on what it will take to make AI datacenters more sustainable.

That reflects how priorities are changing as AI infrastructure continues to evolve.

The article also points to a challenge many operators are already experiencing: traditional inspection methods can't keep up with AI workloads that generate denser and more dynamic heat. Manual checks worked when infrastructure was built around predictable CPU loads. And they're becoming much harder to rely on today.

Most discussions about AI infrastructure focus on compute. Chips, GPUs, who's buying what. The conversation about cooling is much quieter, even though it's becoming one of the biggest constraints on AI deployment.

IBM's recent earnings offer an interesting signal. The company reported that customers delayed software and consulting purchases while accelerating investment in servers, storage and memory to support AI infrastructure.

📈 Investment is shifting toward physical AI infrastructure.

What receives less attention is what happens once that hardware is deployed. As compute density increases, many facilities are approaching the limits of what they can power and cool efficiently. AI infrastructure is no longer constrained only by GPU availability. It's increasingly constrained by the ability to manage heat while maintaining reliable performance.

At Asperitas, we believe cooling should be considered alongside compute from the start, not after deployment. That's exactly why immersion cooling was developed: to support high density AI workloads reliably and efficiently as thermal demands continue to grow.

The next phase of AI won't be defined only by faster chips. It will also be defined by the infrastructure capable of supporting them.

Why does simulation still need physical validation? 🤔

Following Sofia Mendoza's presentation at Siemens Europe 2026, an audience member asked whether a simulation model could be fully validated using component data provided by manufacturers.

It's a fair question, but in practice the answer is rarely straightforward.

While manufacturers may provide CAD models and technical specifications, they don't always include every detail needed to accurately represent how a component behaves within a complete system. As a result, engineering models inevitably rely on assumptions that must be validated against real-world performance.

This is why physical testing remains an essential part of the engineering process. It allows engineers to compare expected and measured behaviour, refine their models and build confidence in the simulation results.

The discussion was a valuable reminder that accurate simulation doesn't start with software alone. The real value comes from knowing you can trust the model.

We enjoyed a BBQ, caught up with colleagues and made the most of the Dutch summer while it lasts.

⚒️ AI workloads are increasingly being deployed across mining, energy, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare, defence and retail environments where infrastructure must operate reliably outside traditional IT conditions.

These deployments cannot depend on controlled datacentre conditions. They require local processing, operational continuity and reliable performance directly at the point of operation.

At the same time, they introduce challenges such as dust, vibration, temperature variation, limited maintenance access and strict space constraints where traditional air cooling infrastructure becomes difficult to maintain consistently.

The EU Code of Conduct for Datacentres shaped European thinking on efficiency long before the Energy Efficiency Directive (EED) introduced mandatory reporting requirements.

What makes it still relevant today is its broader engineering perspective.

The Code focuses on how cooling, power, monitoring, water consumption, heat reuse and thermal management perform together at system level.

As rack densities continue to increase, many of the operational goals promoted by the EU CoC are directly addressed through immersion cooling architecture.
