Atelier Evelien Honcoop

Atelier Evelien Honcoop Rooted in illustration, old crafts and natural materials Stuck in snowstorms, discovering places when you feel lost and cannot see.

Often you end up in dreamy landscapes past snowy trees, wild animals, remote hidaways, finding hidden secrets... in dense atmospheres dooming in the dark. Getting lost on forgotten paths threathened by luring shadows and dangers from mist-shrouded landscapes. Whilst groping in the dark, observe and uncover what has subconsciously managed to sketch a path on my paper. A never ending journey in sea

rch of the unknown, wandering alone in the calm and silence of nature, always looking for that one atmosphere....that intense feeling of being small, nothing, compared to mighty nature. Black dots fill the void in a repeating way. No dot is more meaningful than the others. Each dot is just as important as the other. What fascinates me most, however, is the empty space. There where endless possibilities are. Dotwork, also called stippling, is a form of pointilism that has captivated me for a number of years now …. a time-consuming and meditative technique. I studied the art of stained glass/glass painting, but there has always been hiding an illustrator in here. I did not have stopped exploring other arts and nowadays I am gladly weaving multiple crafts together in my work.

Welcoming little mayflower Astrid, born 4 may 2026.

My sister Nelleke Cornelia and Olivier Van Remoorter gave me the honour to draw the birth announcement of their baby. At that time to me a still unknown gender and nameless life to be.

She expected her newborn in May.
Since our late father loved Hawthorn ( also known as Maythorn/meidoorn in dutch) creating something with that tree felt like a meant to be choice for her.

The thorny bushes and trees reminded my dad of his childhood growing up on the countryside.
Where in spring, during the month May, the air was filled with the fragant smell of the blossoming mayflowers.

It is a nice way to remember our dad since he's still missed dearly during the joyful welcoming of a new life to our clan.

Welkom in dit leven Astrid 🌸

I have been a bit absent on the posting latelty.

Still alive, but I have felt better actually.
An unknown allergic anafylactic reaction I've had in the last winter months, has given me the feeling like a massive inner tectonic eartquake has taken place. And I don't know how to feel about it other than confused but also quite.. existential? I don't know a good word or explaination actually.
I just want to solely involve myself with the things that truly matter in life.

Although I'm still figure that out and trying to balance out all the late obstacles that has fallen on my path.

In slow living mode....

Because that is one element on the balance cord I've learned the past couple of years of grief, illness and head trauma that I just have to do to actually stay more balanced out.

Slow steps, falling off, get back up and maybe one day I will feel as my new and a bit old self again.

The photo's are from the hibernation months.
