Governor Aliyu Automates Transportation Management in Sokoto….

Acquired 70 Vehicles, Assigned 20 For Woman.

At the ministerial briefing for MDAs in Sokoto State, Ahmad Abdulqadir, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Works and Transportation, accompanied by the Directors, represented the overseer of the Ministry, the Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, His Excellency Idris Muhammad Gobir, at the event. The briefing highlighted significant achievements of the ministry under the administration of Dr. Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto PhD FCNA over the past year.

In order to buttress the Sokoto State Government’s adoption of digital-economic activities in the State, a pivotal initiative was announced by the Ministry; the upcoming implementation of an e-ticketing system aimed at modernizing Sokoto's transport infrastructure. This system aims to streamline ticketing processes, reduce fraud, and optimize revenue collection, marking a substantial advancement in service delivery.

Additionally, the ministry announced the acquisition of 70 new vehicles to enhance the operational efficiency of Sokoto's transport services. Notably, 20 of these vehicles are designated specifically for transporting women within Sokoto city at a subsidized fare of 100 naira per trip. This initiative aims to mitigate the impact of the Federal Government's subsidy removal on transportation costs.

The briefing also encompassed discussions on the ongoing construction of bus stops at strategic locations across Sokoto. These stops are strategically positioned, including areas such as Sokoto State University, College of Education (COE), College of Administration, Gidan Man Ada Arkilla, Shehu Kangiwa Secretariat, Dandima Flyover, Specialist Hospital, Maryam Abacha Hospital, Remand Home, Rima Radio, and University Teaching Hospital, aimed at addressing public transportation challenges.

Under its mandate, the Ministry of Works and Transportation provides comprehensive consultancy services to the state government and meticulously oversees construction, rehabilitation, and infrastructure projects. This includes detailed planning and production of bills of quantity to ensure adherence to project specifications and standards.

The ministerial briefing, jointly organized by the Ministry of Innovation and Digital Economy and the Ministry of Information and Orientation, aimed to assess the performance of MDAs in Sokoto State over the past year, emphasizing the administration's commitment to transparency and accountability.

Governor Aliyu New Education Strategy Saves Sokoto 0.2bn on NECO in 2024.

The recent ministerial briefing for MDAs in Sokoto spotlighted the Ministry of Basic and Secondary School Education, led by Hon. Commissioner Tukur Alkali. He outlined both the substantial challenges and significant achievements in the education sector under Governor Ahmad Aliyu's administration.

Commissioner Alkali emphasized the considerable resource allocation necessary to tackle the sector's issues. He praised the state government's progress in its first year, highlighting several key initiatives. These include the renovation of one block of three classrooms in 22 selected primary schools in Sokoto North and South LGEAs, the re-introduction and enhancement of quality examinations, the re-introduction and payment of WAEC SSCE Examinations, and the formation of a committee to review both the quality and quantity of food served to students.

A notable achievement mentioned was the successful implementation of mock exams, which serve as qualifiers for the upcoming NECO exams. This first-stage initiative saves the state approximately N214,212,000 naira, considering the 9,632 students who failed the mock exams from the registered 39,210, each costing N22,250.00 naira for registration.
