JAMB releases 4,536 withheld results, suspends navy centre for fraud

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board on Friday released 4,536 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination results, which were withheld for allegations of multiple identities of candidates and other infractions.

JAMB said the release of 4,536 out of a total 4,760 withheld results followed the decision of a committee set up to examine the multiple facial identities.

The board noted that the facial match recognition was carried out by its specialised software and Information Technology experts.

Over 1.8million candidates had sat for the examination between April 11 and April 18, with the release of over 1,792,000 results on May 11.

But on Friday, the board said it had cleared 4,536 withheld results of infractions.

It also said the Nigerian Navy Secondary School centre, Abeokuta, Ogun State, had been suspended for “acts not acceptable by the board.”

In a release by the JAMB Head of Information, Dr Fabian Benjamin, the board said, “Following the consideration of the committee on the 4,760 candidates whose results were withheld due to multiple facial matches with different names, the board has released the results of 4,536 absolved of complication.

“The board also released the results of 231 candidates who sat for the examination at the Nigerian Navy Secondary School, Abeokuta, Ogun State. However, the centre has been suspended for acts not acceptable by the board. Out of the number subjected for screening, the board will subject the results of 127 candidates for further physical examination while the results of 97 candidates established to have involved in infractions are withheld.

“Those to be subjected to further physical examination will be contacted. They must appear before an inspection team to clarify other likely areas of multiplicity. The 127 have been grouped in zones for convenience and easy accessibility.”

MTN completes payment of N330bn fine to Nigerian govt

MTN Nigeria Plc says it has paid the sixth and final instalment of N55 billion negotiated settlement to the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC).

The Chief Corporate Relations Officer of MTN Nigeria, Tobechukwu Okigbo, made the disclosure in a statement on Friday in Lagos.

According to him, the amount completes MTN’s payment of the N330 billion negotiated settlement agreed between the NCC and the company in 2016.

“The successful resolution of the fine was the outcome of active collaboration between the NCC and MTN.

“We are very pleased to have completed the payment of the N330 billon negotiated settlement with the NCC.

“We are particularly gratified to be in a position to have fully met the terms of the settlement within the agreed time frames.

“I thank the NCC for constructive and collaborative approach to this issue, and believe that we emerge from it with a stronger relationship focused on ensuring maximum value is delivered to our people from a strong and growing telecoms sector,” he said

NAN reports that MTN and the NCC reached a negotiated settlement in relation to the fine imposed on MTN in 2015 as a result of a dispute over the disconnection of unregistered SIM cards in its subscriber base.

The first ever email was sent in 1971.

The email was sent by Ray Tomlinson (US programmer) who invented the email system. The “@” symbol was used to signify that the email was sent to a person and not a dumb machine (computer). Sad that he doesn’t remember the exact message he sent back then.
