In today’s world IT (Information Technology) plays a key role. It’s the way we pay our bills, attending classes, check our bus routes, shop, communicate with family and friends, the application is numerous. The place of IT cannot be over emphasized, it touches every facet of life from social to commercial, entertainment to communication and medical to transportation regardless of your industry and/or personal life, we find that IT has come to play a key role in making everyday activity faster and efficient. This is after all, the information age. We have achieved a lot with the help of technology, distance and language are no longer a barriers in business or social life. It is safe to say that technology helps to shape our life daily.
Information Technology in NIGERIA
The adoption and implementation of Information Technology in Nigeria and a lot of African Nations as a whole has been slow. The average person on the street does not know how to use a computer, this includes secondary school students and students in the higher institutions. A few percentage of them own electronic mail (email) accounts, of this special breed, only a fraction of them can actually manage their email accounts by themselves, most paid someone to create an email account for them. Carrying out tasks like attaching multiple files to an email would seem like rocket science. Many factors have contributed and aided in bringing us to this point, Lack of Power, Lack of adequate training and/or Exposure, Lack of Funds and access to proper training, Lack of awareness etc. How then do we compete favorably, globally? How do we remain relevant and not left behind as the world creates new standard and more efficient ways for doing things?!
