Can someone please explain how this works. So Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Wednesday 29th May 2023 signed into law the bill to revert to Nigeria's old national anthem which was dropped by a military government in 1978. The newly re-adopted anthem, which begins "Nigeria, We Hail Thee," was written by Lillian Jean Williams in 1959 and composed by Frances Berda.
Pa Benedict Odiase (August 25, 1934 – June 11, 2013) was a Nigerian composer who composed "Arise, O Compatriots," the former national anthem of Nigeria. "Arise, O Compatriots," which was adopted in 1978, replaced the country's previous(now reinstated) national anthem, "Nigeria, We Hail Thee".
How does changing the national item help the average person on the streets of Nigeria currently struggling to make ends meet. Could Tinubu and the National Assembly have concentrated on implementing other policies that would make life better for Nigerians? Does this also mean that the families of Lillian Jean Williams and Frances Berda can now claim to be paid millions for the use of their intellectual property? Somehow, it seems to me that the Nigerian government is playing out a script being dictated by some higher powers. This is a sad case of misplaced priorities!😡😡😡
