We went one step further than manual app control combining our previous work in conditional logic with recent work in connectivity, so the device makes its own decisions (like turning on a fan past a temperature threshold) and simply reports that decision to the app, rather than waiting for a person to tap a button. 🤖⚙️

That's the real shift from "remote control" to "automation" the system acts on its own, and keeps you informed.

So far we've sent data from device to app. The build flips it, sending commands from the app back to the device. Our interns wired a relay to the ESP32 and controlled it entirely from a Blynk button on their phone, completing the loop: sense, send, receive, act.

This two-way flow is the actual foundation of every smart plug, smart light, and remote-controlled appliance on the market.

Real IoT devices lose connection constantly, Wi-Fi drops, routers restart, signal weakens. A poorly written program just crashes or hangs. Our students learned to write reconnect logic that detects a dropped connection and automatically retries, instead of assuming the network is always there. 🔁📡

This is the difference between a demo that works in class and a device that survives in someone's actual home for months.

Taking last week's LDR sensor setup and, instead of just printing values to the serial monitor, streaming those readings to a Blynk dashboard in real time. Our cohort watched their phone update live as they covered and uncovered the sensor. ☁️📊

This is the same underlying pattern behind real smart home products, a sensor reads, the board packages the data, and it travels over Wi-Fi to somewhere you can actually see it.
