One day Shāykh Muhammad Nazeer the son of Shāykh Ibrahim Niassë (RTA) was telling a story that Shāykh Ibrahim Niassë their father told them when they were at the age of 10years he said; Mawlana Shaykh Ibrahim Niass (RA), utter these words:
“I have a spiritual son who is not with me here. We have met spiritually and by blood, but not physically. When he reaches the age of 17, he will surely look for me and locate me.”

The very moment he hit 17, without a smartphone, without Google Maps, without modern transportation, driven purely by divine love, this brave young boy left Kogi State and embarked on an epic, unimaginable journey across West Africa to Senegal. When he arrived, Barahama looked at him and declared this is the spiritual son I spoke about years ago.

When we look at the landscape of Islamic education in Nigeria today, where faith beautifully intertwines with modern science and technology, we must honor the foundational giants who paved the way. Unarguably, one of the greatest heroes of knowledge in our region is Sheikh Yusuf Abdullahi Allokoji (Radiyallahu Anhu).

Born in 1880 at Bagana, Omala LGA, Kogi State, though originally from Bida, Niger State was a man centuries ahead of his time. Long before it became mainstream, Sheikh Yusuf saw the urgent need for contemporary Muslims to acquire an education that masterfully blends deep Islamic scholarship with modern science and technology.

His vision knew no borders. In 1952, he established Nur ul-Islam in Ibadan, before permanently settling in Lokoja in 1958 to birth the legendary Institute for Arabic and Islamic Studies (Markaz Lokoja). A prolific writer, profound poet, and master of jurisprudence, he left behind over five dozen works in classical Arabic, anchoring Kogi State as a historic epicenter of intellectual revival.

Exactly 35 years ago today, a towering iroko tree in the global Tijaniyya Sufi order, a master of Tafsir, and the thunderous voice of Islam transitioned to eternal glory—Sheikh Ahmad Rufai Abdulkarim Okene (Radiyallahu Ta'ala Anhu).

History recognizes him as the intellectual pillar of the "Triumvirate of Islam in Ebiraland" alongside His Highness Alhaji Ibrahim Atta and Sheikh Abdulmalik Atta. Where others provided political cover and financial resources, Sheikh Ahmad Rufai brought unyielding, versatile Islamic knowledge.

He ran the longest Tafsir session in the history of the region—spanning over 50 years! When we gather for the TIMSAN Northern Convention 3.0, we are not just visiting a geographic location. We are journeying into a sanctuary of profound spiritual history. This year, the convention is zoned to the historic town of Okene, the resting place of a matriarch of faith, Sayyidah Bilqis Inyass.

Born into nobility on December 31, 1939 (21st Zhul-Qa'ada, 1358), Sayyidah Balqeesah was the daughter of the legendary Sheikh Abdul-Maleek (Nigeria’s first High Commissioner to the United Kingdom) and the granddaughter of the first traditional ruler of Ebira land, Atta Ibrahim Onoruoiza.

Her life was defined by absolute devotion. Raised with immense love by her father, she learned early the beauty of trust and spiritual obedience. In 1954, that pure trust culminated in her marriage in Kaolack, Senegal, to the spiritual titan and master of the Tijjaniyyah path, Mawlana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass (RA). Their union broke down tribal walls, embodying the Sheikh’s vision of a united, borderless community of faith.

After a life filled with dignity, charisma, and unmatched grace, our mother returned to her Lord on April 15, 2017, and her remains were laid to rest on the blessed soil of Okene.

For every delegate attending TIMSAN 3.0, this convention offers a rare, sacred milestone. We will be embarking on a coordinated Ziyarah to the Rawdah of Sayyidah Balqeesah Inyass.

To understand the immense blessings covering her and those who visit her, look no further than the beautiful Qasidah (poem) written for her household by her husband, Maulana Sheikh Ibrahim Niass, which continues to manifest in their lineage today:

وهب لي وهب عبد المليك مراده # # لدى حضرة الربّ المليك ولا تخزي
And fulfill my need and the need of Abdul Maleek # # (By) the pre-eminence of the Lord of Maleek and do not dishonor (him)

وتكسوه في الفردوس بالسندس الذي # # يباهي به أبهى وألين من خزّ
And clothe him in Firdaws with fine brocade which # # Is ennobling and flamboyant, that eases (his) pain

وكنْ حصنه عمّا يخاف وكنْ له # # كذا لإبنه مشهود من غير ما ميزِ
And be as his safeguard against what he fears and be (there) for him # # Just like his son, Mashood, without any discrimination

كذا بنته بلقيس تحيا كريمة # # بأولادها من دون خدشٍ ولا وخْزِ
Just like his daughter Bilqees (make her) live in honor and dignity # # With her children without any scratch nor any prickle
