SAN FRANCISCO, Feb 5 - Your next coworker may be powered by AI.
On Thursday, OpenAI announced the launch of a new service called Frontier, designed to help companies create and manage artificial intelligence agents—tools capable of performing specific tasks, such as troubleshooting software issues.
This initiative is part of OpenAI's broader strategy to capture the enterprise market, competing directly with rivals like the AI startup Anthropic, which relies heavily on corporate clients for its revenue. Last year, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman emphasized that enterprise growth would be a "huge focus" for the company.
As both OpenAI and Anthropic prepare for potential IPOs, they are vying for investor interest. The competition extends to marketing as well, with both companies set to air rival ads during the Super Bowl. Anthropic's advertisement appears to take a jab at OpenAI’s decision to introduce ads in ChatGPT, a move that garnered criticism from OpenAI, with Altman describing the ad as both "funny" and "clearly dishonest."
OpenAI executives stated that Frontier is designed to integrate seamlessly with existing company infrastructure and AI agents developed by third parties. This compatibility could accelerate the adoption of OpenAI's enterprise tools, according to Fidji Simo, who leads OpenAI's product and business teams as CEO of applications.
"This is our commitment to building an intelligence layer that makes it easier for enterprises to implement agents," she said.
